Toronto – Tigray Region Peace and Security Bureau warns it will take measures against “Tigray Peace Force”  (TPF).

In  a statement released this weekend, it accused the group of killing one member of the “Tigray Defense Force.”  The claim is not independently verified. If verified, this the second time in less than two weeks for the TPF forces to attack the “Tigray Defense Force.”

The group has not denied or confirmed the specific claim from the region’s peace and security office. However, a few days ago it said that the TPLF forces attempted an attack and it was repulsed.

The office has been alleging that Getachew Reda‘s new party, Semret Party, is behind the Tigray Peace Forces. Getachew Reda denied that he is not leading or supporting an armed group.

TPF organized itself in the Afar region of Ethiopia after breaking apart from the “Tigray Defense Force.” It rebelled against Tigray People’s Liberation Front move to retake power in the region by force.

The group also accuses the TPLF of forming an alliance with Eritrea to start war again in the region.

Apart from the “Tigray Peace Force,”  General Tsadkan Gebretensae last week announced that he is coordinating four major forces in Tigray against the TPLF.

This week, the TPLF announced it will be making administrative changes in the South Tigray region – a move that is prone to cause conflict in view of “Tigray Peace Force’s” opposition to it.  The group is mostly operating along the Tigray-Afar boundaries.
