Toronto – Continued intense fighting between Fano and government forces reported across the Amhara region of Ethiopia.
Government forces have reportedly suffered more casualties in some areas. The Fano forces in South Gondar claimed to have killed 66 government soldiers.
According to Ethio Focus, the battle was in the Kwasa Michael area of and Mesk Wuha areas of Semada in South Gondar. From the Fano side, four reported killed including a commander.
The Ethiopian Government has not remarked about it.
In Shoa, Yifat Epherata Ena Gidim area there was an intense battle from two directions close to Ataye town on Saturday. However, the extent of casualties is unspecified on both sides.
The source added that the defense force deployed in this area are mostly government commando forces. Two government commands and two anti-riot forces members have reportedly deserted to Fano forces.
In Central Armachino, the Fano’s have launched an ambush attack. Military vehicles moving from central to west Armachiho were attacked in Dogaw locality. No details of the extent to the casualty is specified.
In the Bahir Dar area, seat of the Amhara regional state, hours long fighting was reported on Saturday. It started in the early morning and ended before noon.
But again, the number of casualties is unspecified. The Amhara regional state has not remarked about it either. An eyewitness is cited as saying “he has seen about four wounded anti-riot forces being taken to hospital but the number could be higher.” No death is reported.
More intense battle was reported in the Raya-Kobo area, North Wollo. Fano forces are said to have controlled Robit town. Mechanized forces were deployed on the part of the government. Yet Fano forces claim a major military gain in this area too.
Furthermore, Fano reported that it has seized a zu-23 and two mortars from government forces. The Ethiopian government has reportedly accused Fano forces and what it called Junta forces ( a reference to TPLF forces) of opening a “joint operation.”
Details of casualties from Robit Operation are unspecified.
The Ethiopian Defense Force launched what it called “Operation Tide” in June this year with plans to eliminate Fano forces by the end of the move. The offensives were intensives.
The claims of Fano forces are not independently verified. However, social media sources and local news sources with links to Fano seem to suggest that Fano forces are undertaking operations in many areas of the Amhara region including by targeting government military camps in some areas.
