Ethiopia’s National Bank Accuses Four U.S. Based Money Transfer Agents As Illegal

Toronto –  The National Bank of Ethiopia on Saturday released a statement accusing U.S. based money transfer service providers as illegal. 

“We have identified several money transfer service providers operating in the United States who are engaged in money laundering activities and financing illegal activities using funds collected from the Ethiopian community abroad,” the statement reads. 

Three of them are based in Virginia and Silver Spring  and one in Minnesota.  

The National Bank alleges Shgey Money Transfer, Adulis Money Transfer, Ramada Pay (Kaah) and TAAL Money transfer are engaged in illegal activities. 

The above service providers have not responded to the allegation at the time of this writing.  The U.S. Embassy in Ethiopia or the U.S. The State Department has not yet remarked either if the Ethiopian government claim is substantiated.  

Also, the National Bank of Ethiopia has announced lists of licensed money transfer services. It is composed of 88 service providers. It has published the entire list on its website. Alphabetically arranged list of the providers is as follows :
