Toronto – The United States on Friday announced a $4 billion loan arrangement to Poland to advance “Strategic Partnership and Strengthening NATO’s Eastern Flank.”

In a statement the U.S. State Department issued, it said “the United States is proud to announce a $4 billion Foreign Military Financing (FMF) loan guarantee to the Republic of Poland. This substantial support reflects Poland’s serious commitment to its own defense and to sharing the burden of NATO’s collective security.”

The statement also described Poland as “one of America’s strongest and most dependable allies in Europe…”

The United States sees  Foreign Military Financing (FMF) program as one that strengthens the US’s national security.

The announcement came at time when Lieutenant General Alexus G Grynkewich, United States Air Force, whom NATO approved his nomination “as the post of Supreme Allied Commander Europe,”  met with Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski.

For the United States, the loan arrangement to Poland  “reaffirms the United States’ commitment to strong bilateral partnerships based on mutual respect, shared investment, and strategic priorities. Working together, the United States and Poland are securing the future of NATO, deterring aggression, and standing firm for freedom, sovereignty, and peace in Europe.”

Notably, Russia has been reacting to NATO’s east ward expansion in Europe. The announcement came at a time when Russia is intensifying its military operations in Ukraine.

Recently, there were reports that Russian President Vladimir Putin is increasingly losing his patience with the U.S. President Donald Trump.
