Toronto – Eritrean President Isaias Afeworki on Thursday had a second parts interview with the state owned Television, Eri TV.

The tense relation with Ethiopia and regional crisis particularly Sudan were among issues covered during the interview.

Although the second part interview was not mostly about Eritrea’s tension with Abiy Ahmed’s government, unlike the first part interview, President Isaias made accusations about Ethiopia.

There have been concerns in both countries that Ethiopia and Eritrea are going to war again. Credible reports of military preparations on both sides had been making news headlines in the local and mainstream media.

However, President Isaias seems to dismiss the prospect of potential war with Ethiopia. “There is no reason for war,” he said during the interview. He also advised the Ethiopian government to focus on resolving “internal issues.”  He urged Ethiopians not to be lured into war. Ethiopia has indeed been experiencing major internal wars for over four years now. But the administration accuses the Eritrean government as enabler or armed groups in the country. On the other hand rebel groups deny that they are not proxy forces to Eritrea.

As well, President Isaias highlighted what he thinks to be preparation for war on the part of Ethiopia with support from four powers. President Isaias alleged that the delivery of modern weaponry including drones to Ethiopia continues.

He seems to see four powers behind what he sees as Ethiopia’s preparation for war : UAE, Israel,   France and U.S.A.

The Eritrean President also blamed Ethiopian authorities of tarnishing Eritrea’s image in the diplomatic campaigns they are undertaking. And these campaigns are, he says, “based on lies.”

There has been a recent report that Ethiopian government made accusations at the United Nations against what it called “Eritrea’s preparation of war against Ethiopia.”  Earlier this year, the Ethiopian government briefed diplomatic corps in Addis Ababa making allegations that Eritrea is supporting a faction of the TPLF under Debretsion Gebremichael.

Clear signs of military and political alliances between the Debretison led faction and the Eritrean government has been making news headlines for several months now which the Ethiopian government sees as infringement on the sovereignty of Ethiopia.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has been pushing the idea of access to the sea for over a year now – a development that alerted the Eritrean government. His government is said to have a  plan to take the port of Assab by any means including military means.

Regarding the war in Sudan, the Eritrean president sees it as one that was “escalated by external powers who have long targeted Sudan due to its crucial geopolitical importance,” as cited by Eritrea’s Ministry of Information. UAE is clearly cited in name.

  1. My longtime homeboy Al-Toweel Isu is right. Ethiopia is preparing to invade Eritrea with the support and participation of ten foreign countries. Those are Lesotho, Bolivia, Dahomey, Upper Volta, Surinam, Burma, Tuvalu, Easter Island, Green Land, East Timor and Ecuador. I have the copy of their secret Declaration of War right here in my hand. You can see it on my website after you sign up for just $500 per month. Don’t forget to subscribe for my podcast and tv station. Among these ten countries Dahomey’s army is the most powerful and the most feared because its soldiers are naturally bulletproof and can run 100 miles per hour. My homie Isu and his army will have no chance.
