Toronto – Afar Communication Bureau this week announced the Ertale area of the region experienced volcanic eruption. Ertale is a volcanic location and major tourist attraction spot in the region. It is part of the Great East African Rift Valley.
According to the office, the volcanic eruption occurred in four different locations about 15 kilometers from Ertale center. Officials from the region are cited as saying Molten Volcano from Ertale and lava pushed from it is linked to the eruption. However, what the region’s communication office cited do not seem to be geological experts. Abdu Ahmed is one of the officials cited and his role as director of tourism promotion.
The volcanic eruptions that occurred 15 kilometers from Ertale appear rather Smokey (see picture above ) but they also have a fire in them. “new lava is being emitted through new faults,” the report added. There was a similar incident recently in the northern and southern creator lake.
The report from the communication office also highlighted that there were Israeli and Japanese tourists at the time of volcanic eruption.

No damage or causality is reported – tourists or local community members. The region claims that follow up of the volcanic activity and early safety measures have helped keep visitors and local community members safe.
Ertale is one of the main tourist attractions in Ethiopia. The region’s tourism bureau reported that over 404,000 local and foreign tourists visited the region in the just ended Ethiopian fiscal year. The figure is not verified from other sources.
