Toronto – Gunmen reportedly killed 14 civilians in Nono district of West Shoa zone of Oromia region of Ethiopia. Woman and children among the victims.
The incident occurred on Thursday in the evening when gunmen targeted a neighborhood for an arbitrary attack, according to DW Amharic report.
Six members of the same family are among those killed in the attack. Berhanu Shemsedin reportedly lost his spouse and five children.
DW Amharic cited him as saying that they perished. He was reportedly speaking in a week and cutting voice. “It is an accident,” he said.
“It is around 1:30 [ 7:30 p.m. local time] that they killed all my family members. Including a two years old child, three sons, two daughters and my wife vanished. 5 years old, 11, 12 and 14 years old. The killers did not hold a grudge against me. What we are told is that they are extremists who are operating as guerrillas south of our area. Although they did not lose an entire family like myself ,four of my neighbors have lost family members,” he told the source.
The rest of the victims were in their houses when the accident occurred, the source added. Some of them were having supper and others were watching TV when the attack happened.
Berhanu Shemsedin also told DW Amharic that when he heard gunshot, he wanted to go out from a neighboring house where he was visiting but his host insisted that he should not go out. Later, when he reached home, all his family members were dead, he told DW Amharic.
The attack occurred in the neighborhood in the outskirts of the district. A resident who spoke to the source anonymously said “we were all in the town at the time. We were hearing the sound from heavy weaponry fire. The gun fire stopped around 2:30. when we headed to the place we saw many bodies…”
It is also indicated that security forces deployed in the town were not there at the time. The gunmen who are said to be behind the attack are estimated to be between 35 and 40.
The source indicated that the effort to reach out to the West Shoa Zone to get remarks about the killings was not a success.
The West Shoa zone of Oromia region has been one of the notorious locations in the country. There have been recurring massacres in the zone over the past few years. The militant ethnic Oromo nationalist group that calls itself “Oromo Liberation Army” operates across the region.

Folks, you and I read about such barbaric acts, the first question that we always ask is ‘why?’ That is because we are not on the same boat with those who did the killings. We are in a serious lack of the meaning of ‘liberating’ people. According to those who claim to be ‘rebels’, killing innocent individuals is part of the game, the process of ‘liberation’. How, you may ask a question of the naiveté. In this case, the ganja toting and dreadlocks donning beast will be very happy to explain that to you and I in plain elementary language because he thinks you and I are so dumb that the ring in us does not ring at all. In his working protocol if he thinks you and I possess a fat money bag, he will set a levy on it and if we don’t cough it up pronto we or members of our family will be dead meat. He is not with no predecessors. Both ELF and EPLF used to that in the 1960’s, 70’s and 80′. In fact, the current ‘Black Italians’ in Piccola Roma do that to the current days in modified ways. Lice and scabies-ravaged-dreadlocks domed goon is their handmade protégé. His mentors have been shaking down everyone from their fiefdom who live and work overseas to cough up at least 10% of his/her earnings or else he/she will never see or hear from loved ones left behind forever. If you doubt me on that, just ask around.
Such savage killing is not happening in Oromia region only but it is also taking place in Amhara region too. The recent outcry by the MSF is one of the many evidences. Why the direly needed healthcare providers you and I may ask? That is because we are so doorknobs that we don’t have any clue of the process of ‘liberating’ people. Get with it!!!
