Kassahun Goffe in stable condition after the car accident

Toronto – Days after news of reports of a drunk driving accident, Ethiopia’s Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration on Monday confirmed that the Minister, Kassahun Gofe, was involved in a car accident.
The update which was released about a few hours ago said the Minister is in a stable condition.
As to the nature of the accident, the ministry said he was involved in a car accident as he was heading home from work around 7 p.m. local time on June 22.
The disclosure also confirmed that the accident happened near Karl Square – which it said is close to his residence.
“While this is the reality, the Minister of Trade and Regional Development would like to emphasize that the social media reports that are being spread out of context and based on unverified information and rumors to exploit the situation for cheap political gain are false and baseless. We respectfully announce that the Honorable Minister will soon return to his regular duties after a period of adequate health care,” The Ministry said in a news release it shared on social media.
Notably, the Ministry took several days to disclose to the public about the accident involving the minister. It appears the disclosure came in response to reports of drunk driving.
Wazema Radio, one of the reputable Ethiopian local news sources, reported that first responders who took the minister to a hospital realized that the Minister was under the influence of Alcohol. It also reported that he was in the ICU for days.
