Toronto – The National Bank of Ethiopia on Monday announced a new proclamation repealing the issuance of treasury Board.

“It has been found necessary to repeal the Treasury Bond Purchase Directive No MFAD/TRBO/001/2022” reads the introduction of the new Proclamation 1359/2025.

It is unspecified why the bank repealed  it. When the bank introduced the directive in 2022, the stated objective  was “enhancing the participation of banks in supporting the balanced growth of the Ethiopian Economy.”

The new proclamation is effective as of June 30,2025.

As to the fate of the Treasury Bond purchased before, the bank stated that they “shall continue to be governed, as may necessary, by the Treasury Bond Directive No MFAD/TRBO/001/2022.
