Truck Drivers have been reporting recurring security incidents from the area

Borkena
Toronto – At least 16 truck drivers are reportedly killed and several others abducted along the Gondar-Metema Road in the Amhara region of Ethiopia.
The Incident occurred on Monday this week, according to Yeshoferoch Andebet – a dedicated social media page advocating for the safety of truck drivers across Ethiopia.
Armed robbers operating in the area are linked to the incident. These armed groups appear to be different from Fano forces operating in different parts of the region.
There had been allegations against the government over organizing violent armed groups in the region to tarnish the image of Fano forces operating in the region. Independent journalists’ access to the region is still restricted due to the ongoing war between government and Fano forces. Among the armed robbers in the area are groups who associate themselves with the Kimant community.
Amahra regional state communication office has not remarked on the incident at the time of this writing. Defense Chief of Staff, Field Marshal Berhanu Jula, made claims when he presented a nine months report to the parliament that 90 percent of what he calls “extremists” are annihilated in the region. The regional government took a que and made similar claims that it is now in control of much of the areas in the region.
One of the victims from the killings on Monday this week is identified as Nigussie Alemu, a father of three. He was reportedly driving an ISUZU pick up truck and was on a mission to distribute liquid detergent to small stores. He was stopped near Meka town along the Gondar Metema road. The truck he was driving belongs to detergent manufacturers whose names are unspecified.
A picture Yeshoferoch Andebet shared on social media (see above) shows multiples of bullet holes through the windshield suggesting that the driver was probably shot from the front side driver.
The identities of the rest of the victims and those kidnapped is not released.
Yeshoferoch Andebet claimed that the armed groups who are behind the latest killing in the region are back to Meka town. No reports of the arrest in connection with the incident.
This has been a recurring attack against drivers in the area over the past three years. Notably, the problem persists in the Oromia region along the Addis Ababa-Selale roads where several passenger buses were abducted by gunmen operating in the area.
