Toronto – The Ethiopian Airlines is acquiring  two Twin Otter Classic 300-G aircrafts. The Airlines is purchasing them from De Havilland Canada.

The Canadian company has a history of about 5000 deliveries and considers itself  to be  “a global leader in turboprop and special-mission aircraft,” according to information it published on its official website.

The Airlines on Wednesday announced that it signed the purchase agreement with the company.

“Solidifying the vision, Ethiopian signed a purchase agreement for two new Twin Otter Classic 300-G aircraft with De Havilland Canada. This new arrangement enables Ethiopian to enhance its domestic and regional operations, “ it said.

Mesfin Tasew, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, described the aircrafts as “versatile,” and are “designed to support tourism and offer a wide array of services, including air ambulance, airport calibration, and charter operations. Renowned for their proven reliability, the DHC-6-300G aircraft are capable of landing on airstrips unsuitable for larger aircraft models.”

Ryan DeBrusk Vice President Sales and Marketing, De Havilland Canada remarked “We are honoured and excited to welcome Ethiopian Airlines to the Twin Otter Classic 300-G customer family.”

However, the delivery time line is unspecified. The company has so far delivered more than Twin Otter Classic 300-G, according to the information it shared on its website.

As is the case with its international destinations, Ethiopian Airlines has been expanding its domestic services. There are routes that have seen increases in the frequency of flights, opening of new airports and expansion of existing ones over the past few years. Currently, the airline has 22 domestic destinations for which it uses The Dash 8-400 double cabin aircraft.

The security situation in Ethiopia and the proliferation of ransom kidnapping in the country seems to have contributed to the rise of air transport demands in the country – an indication that more purchases could be made from De Havilland Canada.
