Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Wagagen Capital Investment Bank S.C. has officially launched operations, becoming Ethiopia’s first private investment bank to enter the country’s newly established capital market.
The announcement was made during an event held at the Hilton Hotel in Addis Ababa on June 3, 2025, according to Ethio FM. The launch ceremony was attended by senior government officials, institutional representatives, and invited guests, including Dr. Tilahun Esmael, CEO of the Ethiopian Securities Exchange.
In his keynote address, Dr. Aklilu Wubet, Chairman of Wagagen Capital Investment Bank’s Board of Directors, stated that the bank was established with a paid-up capital of 385 million Birr.
Dr. Aklilu also confirmed that the investment bank received its operating license from the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority in March 2025. “We are proud to be the first private investment bank to complete commercial membership registration with the Ethiopian Securities Exchange,” he said, noting the registration was finalized on May 14, 2025.
Wagagen Capital Investment Bank emphasized its independence from any other financial institutions. “Know that I am completely separate from Wegagen Bank S.C. in terms of organization, management, and the operational system I follow,” the bank stated.
