9 May 2025 marks the 80th Anniversary of the Great Patriotic War. It isn’t just a Russian holiday. It commemorates the ultimate victory of Good over Evil and generations to come will celebrate it on a global scale.
Nazism didn’t happen in mythology
Before the era of ‘open source book libraries’ one of my prized possessions was William L. Shirer’s “The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.” The one thing Shirer recorded in bold letters for posterity was ‘make no mistake Nazism wasn’t an accident’. It was a culmination of Western (German) civilization; from Martin Luther to Wagner to Fredrick Nietzsche all have significantly contributed to the rise of Nazism, and being the astute student of history he was, Hitler read their exploits voraciously. He owned it. He reformulated the idea for practical exploitation. He summarized the road map in his book Mein Kampf and presented it to the German public ‘to take it or leave it’. They not only took it they chose to swear by it. He spoke for them to the last word.
That is why Magda Goebbels, an otherwise docile housewife, slaughtered her six children and took her own life when she realized that National Socialism was doomed. She was a great believer in the cause as most Germans were. You see if all truth were to be told Hitler isn’t any guiltier than the average German of the day-with a few exceptions.
Primarily Nazism believed in the extermination of the Jews and the Slavs to make space for the Aryan race. Ironically, Hitler didn’t altogether count the Russians among the ‘Slavic hordes’ unlike the Poles, the Czechs and the Ukrainians. He just couldn’t forget what the Russians did to his idol Fredrick the Great, the Swedes and Napoleon Bonaparte. As the Russian military prowess couldn’t fit into his sick theory of racial superiority he argued that there is the German nucleus in every single Great Russian’s racial gene and blamed the Bolshevism he hated like sin on the Russian Jew.
In a way modern day Ukrainians throwing Nazi salutes and glorifying Nazism accept and concur that they are indeed inferior races good only as menial workers bound in eternal servitude to the Germanic race. They are almost like the American ‘yard negro’ who had made peace with slavery and prayed for the redemption of his master. I have read about units like the Azov Brigade and they are the spitting image of the yard Negro in spirit.
Think about it. Only 80 years separate us from the horrors of Nazism. Folks with sound mental faculties opened human abattoirs to kill, dissect and experiment on vital human organs as classified in age, gender, height, hair and eye color. Good Christian German women donned their Sunday morning white attires, strolled around perfectly manicured parks after Mass and concluded their picnic watching Jews and Slavs being shot for pleasure- with their children. A good Doctor of Medicine, a good son and a proud father and husband as a matter of procedure goes around prison wards and selects his subjects and marks those desirable to be killed and dissected to study human anatomy at the highest level while the body is still warm.
Only 80 years ago on European soil people were butchered and starved on ‘industrial scale’. It didn’t happen in mythology. It didn’t happen in the 50s B.C during Nero’s personal aberration. It happened in this age and as an established system of governance.
The truth of the matter is Nazism wasn’t born with Hitler and it didn’t die with his demise. It is alive and kicking. The accumulated socio-political thinking that birthed the ideology cannot be wished away just like that. Nazism is the practical expression of a principal mainstream Western civilization. Of course, there will always be found a Stauffenberg and a Schindler among their ranks, no question about that; certainly there are sizable like minded folks who are active against the renaissance of the creed. We pin our hopes on their resurgence to fight back the dark diabolical forces germinated all over the world.
The German Guilt
Remember the Nazis glorified the government of National Socialism as a Thousand Years Reich. After the horrors of their crimes were partly unveiled at Nuremberg, the popular perception was that a thousand years may pass but the German guilt will live on. Nazism is Germany’s original sin. Knowing this perfectly well most Germans do their atonement in silence; the rest fight the tendency for rearmament, and do their level best to keep Germany a non-nuclear pacifist economic powerhouse of Europe.
But the current politicians are quite unlike the Germans we have come to know. Imagine a high ranking German politician –a first descendant of a Nazi operative- forbidding the Ambassadors of The Russian Federation and Belarus to attend WWII memorials in Germany. Whatever happened to the Thousand Years German Guilt?
The good thing is regular Germans keep and maintain Soviet monuments in Germany neat and shining. Municipalities and local governments pay their respects to the fallen and wouldn’t broach the idea of dismantling and relocating the monuments. They express their gratitude to the Russians every opportunity they get.
The ‘Ivans’ come to the Rescue
That is what Western detractors called the Great Russian soldier-Ivan. They just couldn’t figure him out. He might murmur against the authorities but he wouldn’t refuse to go out and die for his country. In all the wars Russia fought against different Western powers at different times two things stand out. One there had always been a coalition of Western countries fighting against it and not just one Nation; second, Russia has always been ill prepared for the war and armed with outdated guns. But at the end of the war, after sacrificing disproportionate number of the Ivans for the cause, this backward admixture of the Slavs, the Vikings, the Germans and the Mongol hordes enlarged its territory ‘a Belgium a war’ and to this day stands towering above the rest in eternal glory.
Without the Ivans there would have been just a large Reich Empire, England and Russia on the map of Europe. Europe owes Russia a debt lasting a thousand years. I wish the Great President America has seen since Reagan would attend the 9 May 2025 Parade at the Red Square.

Similarities between the 1930s to 1945 & 2014 to 2025 (+) is very obvious for those who dig a bit deeper.
The fascist regimes of Mussolini, Hitler’s Nazi, & Japan of 80 years ago, resemble post 2014 US, and its vassals in Europe who are backing, training, & arming Neo-Nazi (Azov group, which CIA & MI6 have been grooming since 1990s) in Ukraine who are inseparable part of the Ukrainian government that fighting Russia on the US’s behalf.
About the very last statement of the article, I like to quote what Lindsay Graham has said today, about Trump becoming the next Pope. “… This would truly be a dark horse candidate…” I would say the same applies about him attending May 9th in Moscow.
“… the great president America has since…” is a man concerned about too may young solders dying in Russia Ukraine ( US) war but he is bombing innocent civilians in Yemen, and the bombs he sends to Israel is killing women and children’s in GAZA, he wants to force evict so that America can take over the land to build resorts… His evangelical ambassador in Israel advocates & supports water and food blockade to continue in GAZA until hostages are released.
Meaning some are more equal than others… isn’t that what Nazi /fascist ideology is all about?

They stand on guard to protect the motherland & not let a Nazi boot ever touch the ground where the remains of their forefathers rest; in the process they pay the ultimate sacrifice so that the rest of us (the global majority) live in dignity!!!

Just to elaborate further, the ‘Ivans” ( Russia) have played a pivotal part in Ethiopian history, not once but twice between 1890 – 1980 and these facts should be taught in Ethiopian classrooms so that every Ethiopian knows we have an unbreakable link with the Ivans & Russia.
First, the Victory in the battle Adwa in 1896 was possible partly because the Russian government approved the sale of arms requested by Emperor Menelik II. Along with the arms shipment they also sent medical personnel to help the wounded during the battle.
Second, during the 1977-78 Somalia invasion of Ethiopia, the US government refused to deliver arms paid for during Emperor Haile Selassie I time, therefore the Derg was forced to seek help from the USSR for arms shipment, which helped reverse the outcome.
Therefore, the Ivans & Russia are permanently linked in Ethiopian history and generations of Ethiopians and those yet to come should know and remember our forever binding brotherhood with the Ivans.

Yes, that was an outstanding feat but it would not have been possible without the military and food aid Good Ole USA was generously providing to Stalin’s military. That was why USA was called the ‘Arsenal of Democracy’.
But I can tell one even more unmatched accomplishment and feat that took place between 1936 and 1941. Our fathers were the first ones to kick the living daylight of murderous fascism and they did that without a single military and food assistance from any foreign countries. In fact, the entire Europe had recognized the appropriation of Ethiopia by the fascist Mussolini. President Roosevelt’s USA never recognized such cruel act and saw Ethiopia a sovereign nation until Mussolini’s fascist forces were driven out in May, 1941. He must have known and admired how our gallant and crafty fathers kept more than 250,000 strong army of the Axis Powers tied up inside Ethiopia which contributed directly to the eventual victory by the Allied forced over Rommel’s army in the North African theater. I have been telling this feat to my American colleagues and neighbors for decades. Just imagine how that would have impacted the war in North Africa if those 250,000 Italian soldiers were available for the Desert Fox. I want all of you fathers and grandfathers to tell this true glorious story of our fathers to your children and grandchildren because they are not being taught in their history classes. Also, don’t forget to mention that deadly poisonous chemicals/gas were used by the fascist forces to commit an act of genocide that might have killed more than a million citizens more than five years before the gas chambers of Dachau, Treblinka, Chełmno, Auschwitz II-Birkenau and other concentration camps. Don’t forget that.
