Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Ethiopia’s high-level delegation, led by Finance Minister H.E. Ahmed Shide, held “fruitful discussions” with Amit Dar, Acting Vice President for Eastern and Southern Africa, at the 2025 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank.
According to a statement released by the Ethiopian Ministry of Finance on April 24, the two sides engaged in talks regarding Ethiopia’s “historic macroeconomic reform program” and the nation’s priority areas for future collaboration with the World Bank.
Minister Ahmed Shide provided an update on the “success achieved with the implementation of Ethiopia’s pro-poor reforms amid challenging global conditions and uncertainty.” He also outlined Ethiopia’s growth strategy, emphasizing key areas such as “macro-financial resilience, FDI, energy security, regional trade and integration, financial inclusion, and human capital to achieve prosperity for all.”
The World Bank’s Acting Vice President “commended Ethiopia for the bold policy actions taken to modernize the economy, tame inflation, promote private sector investment, and boost economic productivity through the broad-based homegrown reform program,” the Ministry of Finance stated.
Mr. Dar also “reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to support Ethiopia’s journey towards inclusive growth and sustainable development aimed at benefiting all citizens of Ethiopia by supporting public investment, policy reform, private sector support, and knowledge.”
