Toronto – Ethiopian church followers across the country on Friday celebrated Seklet (translates to crucifixion) across the country. In the western  traditions Siklet is known as “Good Friday.”

In the church tradition, Siklet is the culmination of   passion week. It is a commemoration of the pains The Lord Jesus Christ endured and his crucifixion before he stated “It is finished”

Day long fasting and prostration are key elements in commemorating the pains before and on the cross. It is celebrated in the church with a special liturgy for the day.

More pious followers of the church fast between Thursday and Sunday – the last meal before the fasting would be on Thursday evening. And they break the fast after The Lord Jesus Chris is risen on Sunday.

In the traditions of Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church, the earth was covered with darkness between 12:00 P.M. and 3 :00 P.M. ,  the sun, moon, and stars withheld their light, when The Lord Jesus Christ was on the cross.
