They Have Agreed on the Formation of a Joint Business Council

Toronto – A Joint Ministerial Commission between Algeria and Ethiopia was held in the capital, Addis Ababa, concluding on Sunday.
This marks the fifth such Ministerial Commission. Ahmed Attaf, Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad—a position he has held since 2023—arrived in Addis Ababa on Saturday.
The meeting took place at the Skylight Hotel, a five-star luxury hotel near Bole International Airport, owned and operated by Ethiopian Airlines.
Ethiopian Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos and his Algerian counterpart attended the meeting. Gedion “noted that relations between the two countries have evolved over the years, aligned with African principles and the promotion of Pan-Africanism,” according to Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Algerian Foreign Minister reportedly stated that their cooperation “contributes significantly to continental political unity and economic integration, beyond serving the mutual interests of both nations.”
Ethiopia sees potential for cooperation with Algeria in trade, investment, mining, education, tourism, and energy – among other areas.
Both countries agreed on the need for regular political consultations and official visits to strengthen their strategic partnership.
Cooperation in multilateral forums was also identified as a priority to enhance bilateral ties.
The ministerial meeting culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate in several areas, including agriculture, space science, pharmaceutical industries, sports, culture, investment promotion, and academic research.
In addition to continuing the joint commission, the two nations agreed to establish a Joint Business Council.
