Toronto – There are reports of continued fighting between Fano forces and government forces in many areas of the Amhara region of Ethiopia.
Fanos mostly launched ambush attacks in Gojjam and Gonder, based on a report from Ethio News. Government forces including anti-riot and militia have suffered casualties but Fano’s did not specify the number. They did not disclose if there were casualties on their sides too.
In Sekela district, West Gojjam, Fano forces claim to have controlled Gishe Abbay town after inflicting heavy losses on government forces.
Five Fano commands in the area coordinated an offensive to launch an attack on a fortified position of government forces. Again Fano forces claimed significant military gain and seizure of firearms.
Yilma and Densa, Dangila and Dejen areas of Gojjam have also experienced fighting.
In North Gondar, several government forces were killed on Sunday near the Quara area following an intense battle. The government has reportedly reinforced forces on Monday in the area. Also, a recurring drone survey near Shifa town was observed on the same day, according to Ethio News report.
A few days ago, Fano forces ambushed a government convoy in the area. Government forces reportedly retaliated by killing seven civilians.
In Wollo, the main battle in the past two days was in Wadla area. The government forces, with militia and anti-riot, have reportedly suffered unspecified losses. Earlier in the week, Wollo Fano forces claimed to have killed over 50 militia and anti-riot forces in Kutaber area, and the number is said to have risen to 60.
The Defense Force did not respond to any of the above claims. Notably, the Defense force has recently been sharing several stories of newly trained infantry and military officers from different military training camps.
