Fano “operation unity” targets over 35 military camps in Amhara region

Fano Operation Unity _ Ethiopian News

Toronto – The Fano Forces have reportedly launched “operation unity” targeting about 35 Defense Force positions across the Amhara region of Ethiopia.

Many of the targets were, according to sources, defense force military camps. Fano forces claim to have inflicted severe loss to the defense force – particularly in North Gondar and Gojjam areas.  Number of casualties from the operations is not disclosed.

Social media sources report road closure between Bahir Dar – the regional capital – and Gondar.

“Operation Unity” was launched days after Daniel Kibret, Prime Minister’s advisor on social affairs,  who is also serving as the leading propagandist on social media, claimed that “Fano is aged” and it is not making moves.

The simultaneous coordinated  offensive operation by Fano forces under the command of leaders in the four major areas of the Amhara region (Gondar, Gojjam, Shoa and Wollo) is seen as a landmark achievement in the move to unite all Fano forces under a single command structure.

Regarding the next move, Marshet Tsehayu, Public Relation of Gojjam Fano, told Ethiopian Media Services (EMS) that leaders of the Fano forces in the four areas of the Amhara region are holding continuous discussions.

The Fano Forces have been under immense pressure from the public to unite as a single force as civilian casualties in the region continue to rise. Over six million students are out of school. Health facilities and schools have sustained severe damages due to extensive drone attack and artillery shelling.  The region is ravaged economically and socially. Humanitarian organizations operating in the region have been reporting chorionic humanitarian crisis in the region and calling for support in response to it.

Meanwhile,  Government forces make claims that they have killed Fano leaders in the Antsokia Gemza area of the region. Commando forces were reportedly deployed in the area. The leader who was killed in the area is identified as Abraham Assefa Bekele who was serving as Public relation officer of the Fano forces in the area. The commando forces are said to have launched the attack during night time.

  1. The government forces were running away when the TDF initiated its counteroffensive in the summer of 2021 and pushed deep into Ethiopia. To save his government and without considering the consequences, Abiy Ahmed made a desperate decision and armed the Amhara forces that joined the war and fought a decisive war against the TDF. The TDF commanders faced a more effective fighting force than the regular government forces that were retreating in all the fronts. Abiy Ahmed is now trapped in the trap he put for the TDF in the Amhara region. But the TDF will intervene to defend Oromia which is the gift of Tigray to the Oromo people.
