Toronto – Fano forces and government soldiers continued intense battles in all four major areas of the Amhara region of Ethiopia. All of the fighting took place in the last two days.
In Gojjam, there was intense fighting in two areas. Ethio News reported that government forces attempted to enter Quarit town from two directions—a move that triggered intense fighting as Fano forces responded to it. Government forces are said to have suffered losses. The losses on the side of Fano are undisclosed.
There was another fight in the Debrework and Gendewoin area of East Gojjam. The mission on the part of government forces was to move troops to the Gambore and Felegeberhan area. Fano forces claim that they launched an attack from a mountainous locality of Gorche. Again, they claim to have achieved a military gain from the battle. Soldiers, including commanders, are said to have been killed.
In Gondar, there were battles in multiple locations, including Debmia, Robit, and Chuahit. Various Fano groups operating in the area reportedly launched joint attacks on government forces positions. They claim another military gain. The source unspecified regarding whether there were losses on the part of Fano groups.
In Shoa, there was fighting in the Jiru town area. This was an intense battle, according to an Ethio News report. Government forces have reportedly deployed mechanized units. “We have seen heavy weaponry burning,” residents told the source. However, the number of casualties from this battle is unspecified. This is an area where there is deployment of commando units of the defense force, as it is within a range of 100 kilometers from the capital, Addis Ababa.
On the other hand, the Ethiopian Defense Force is claiming a major victory. Lt. General Assefa Chekol, commander of the North East Command, is cited as saying, “We have cleared the area of extremists, and peace is restored.”
