Amhara Humanitarian Crisis

Borkena
Toronto – The magnitude of the humanitarian crisis in the Amhara region of Ethiopia – due to the ongoing war in the region between government and Fano forces – has been reported to be extensive.
The regional government is indirectly admitting it. The Amhara Region Disaster Risk Management Commission unveiled that it requires 102 billion birr to respond to the humanitarian crisis in the region.
Some parts of the region, like Buna in North Wollo, were facing a famine situation ; there were even reports of famine related death.
The fund is needed for the rehabilitation of schools and health facilities, to cater for internally displaced people (IDPs) .
There have been recurring reports that Ethiopian government forces targeted schools and health facilities with drone strikes and artillery shelling. Over seven million students are out of school in the region as a result of the ongoing war in the region.
Hundreds of residential homes were also destroyed in many parts of the region.
Apart from the humanitarian crisis, there have been recurring extrajudicial executions and drone strike related deaths of civilians.
The Defense Force has recently been making new claims that it has degraded Fano forces to mere bandit forces. However, reports from multiple sources indicate that Fano forces are still in control of a vast area in the region and training new forces.
