Toronto – Sources report continued fighting in Gojjam, Amhara region of Ethiopia, days after an attack targeting civilians in Enerse district.

According to Ethio News, Fano forces ambushed government troops as they were heading from Sekela to Tilili. The incident occurred on Saturday.

Fano forces claim that they have killed many government soldiers without specifying the numbers. Government forces were forced to retreat but did not escape another military engagement.

The source added that Fano forces ambushed the retreating government forces, resulting in an hours-long intense battle near Ambisi town in Gojjam. They claimed to have killed and captured government soldiers, though the numbers remain unspecified.

In recent weeks, Fano forces have also disclosed that they are engaged in training a large force in different parts of the Amhara region, with the goal of launching a large-scale offensive and marching toward the capital, Addis Ababa.

Meanwhile, the government is making counterclaims that it has made a breakthrough in the fight against what it calls “extremists” – a reference to Fano forces.

Lieutenant General Mohammed Tessema, Commander of the Eastern Force, held a meeting with his soldiers in the Amhara region this past Saturday. He is quoted as saying, “We have broken the spine of the terrorist group… we will continue to annihilate the terrorist group.”

However, reports continue to indicate the massacre of civilians in the region as government forces extensively employ drone strikes in an effort to target the rebels. In the latest drone strike in Enesea district, at least 16 civilians were killed, including children, and 12 others were wounded, with some in life-threatening condition. No Fano forces were killed in the attack, according to sources.
