The second reported drone strike in less than a week in the Amahra region of Ethiopia

Borkena
Toronto – The latest Ethiopian Defense Force drone attack has reportedly killed 16 civilians, including a 12-year-old boy, in the Goncha Enese district of East Gojjam, Angesh Kebele, in Ethiopia’s Amhara region. The boy has been identified as Mulugeta Belete.
Ten others were reported wounded, some with life-threatening injuries, and are currently hospitalized. The incident occurred on Thursday around 11 a.m. local time.
No Fano forces – armed groups operating in many areas of the Amhara region – were killed in the attack.
The drone struck three civilian targets, including roadside convenience stores in a rural town. According to sources with links to the area, the stores were owned by Temesgen Abere, Shumet Tesfe, and Habte Amare. It remains unclear whether the owners were among those killed or wounded.
Fano forces, who control the area, have confirmed the incident.
As has been the case in previous incidents, neither the Ethiopian government nor the Amhara regional state has commented on the drone attacks.
Meanwhile, government authorities have recently claimed that “the operation against extremist groups is going well.”
The drone attack in the Enese district marks the second such incident in less than a week in the Amhara region. On February 15, Borkena reported a drone attack in Ambassel, Wollo, which killed at least three civilians and wounded four others. The location of the attack was reportedly in the same district where Fano forces have been engaged in clashes with the Ethiopian Defense Force.
It was also reported that Amhara Fano leaders in Wollo (Bete Amhara) were holding a congress to elect new leaders for the group.
