Toronto – Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed recently held a meeting with military generals at his office in Arat Kilo, Addis Ababa.
As reported earlier this week, Abiy Ahmed summarized the meeting in a single sentence: “Met with the Generals of our National Defence Forces this afternoon to discuss national and regional peace and security issues.”
However, there appears to be more to the meeting than what was publicly disclosed. Access to government information remains highly restricted, particularly for independent media outlets like Borkena. As a result, leaked information often serves as a primary source of insight.
According to Ethio News, the hour-long meeting between the Prime Minister and the military generals covered a range of critical issues. Topics included the desertion of infantry and the “technological capability” of the Ethiopian Defense Force. Sources indicate that the session was not interactive but rather an information exchange, with the Prime Minister dominating the discussion.
Abiy Ahmed’s key message to the generals was reportedly, “Be ready.” He emphasized that Ethiopia is “besieged,” identifying the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) as one of the hostile forces preparing for potential conflict.

Currently, Abiy Ahmed’s government is engaged in conflicts in the Amhara and Oromia regions of Ethiopia. In the Amhara region, more than 80 percent of the area is said to be under the control of Fano forces. Similarly, in the Oromia region, the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) operates extensively, further complicating the security landscape.
