Activist tend to see it as the work of the government of Ethiopia

Toronto – Thirty-seven district-level government officials were reportedly killed in Dega Damot-Feresbet, Gojjam, in the Amhara region of Ethiopia.
A news report by DW Amharic, published on December 7, cited residents from the area as sources.
Feresbet was one of the towns in Gojjam that experienced intense battles between Fano forces and government forces. It had been under Fano forces’ control since September this year. Reports indicate that more than 80 percent of areas in the Amhara region are under Fano’s control, although the government has not confirmed or denied this claim.
The Fano forces left the town on Friday.
About 70 government officials were reportedly detained by Fano forces, according to the DW Amharic report, which cited eyewitness accounts. Of those detained, 37 were killed.
The bodies were sent to relatives and laid to rest, with funerals held in various churches.
The Amhara regional state claims that Fano forces killed the government officials. However, it remains unclear whether an investigation has been conducted into the killings.
In a statement issued on Friday, Desalegne Tassew, head of the Amhara region peace and security office, said that Fano forces killed 37 out of the 97 individuals they had arrested. It is unclear whether the remaining individuals have been released.
Fano forces have not yet responded to the government’s allegations.
Pro-Fano activists have been expressing that the government might have executed the officials in an effort to deny Fano popular support in the region. No independent investigation is undertaken.
Drone Attack
Residents have also reported a drone attack in the area, which took place in the Dekul Kana locality of the town. According to the DW Amharic report, five people were killed and nine others wounded, including members of the Fano forces.
The drone attack was more intense on Thursday, with strikes carried out in four locations in the area, according to sources cited by DW Amharic.
In a related development, a drone attack last week in Dawunt, North Wollo, killed more than 50 people when a truck was targeted following hours of aerial surveillance.
