Toronto – Fano Forces in Gojjam released a statement  on Friday, claiming that government forces are “terrorizing civilians” and engaging in what they described as acts of “banditry.”

Asres Mare Damtie, head of the political division of the Fano forces operating in the region, said the government is engaged in detaining youths on a daily basis, extrajudicial killings, and concentrating youths in training camps.

He also accused government forces of terrorizing the family members of Fano forces, including extrajudicial killings, arrests, and the destruction of their properties.

These acts, according to Asres Mare’s disclosure, are occurring in urban areas.

In addition to targeting individuals, government forces have allegedly looted banks and health centers, destroying some of them in parts of the Gojjam area in the Amhara region.

Schools have been targeted with rockets, artillery, and drone attacks. Asres alleges that the purpose is to ensure the “continuity of Abiy Ahmed’s power” by any means.

The update from Gojjam Fano also claimed that a serious massacre of civilians is resulting from the heavy artillery launched against civilian targets.

Reintroduction of Road Closures and Suspension of Some Social Services

“In an effort to minimize the massacre of civilians from heavy artillery and other heavy weaponry”, Fano forces in Gojjam have reintroduced road closures for all types of vehicles except ambulances.

The Fano forces also stated that banks and schools would be closed, while health centers are allowed to operate. The decision, according to Fano, was made in the interest of public safety.

Fano has also called for the public to be “ready for a series of upcoming military actions.”

Similar actions had been taken in the past to hinder the movement of trucks carrying artillery.

It has been almost two months since the federal government launched what it called the “final military operation.” In a meeting with Amhara region government officials last month, the Defense Force threatened to withdraw from the region if this round of military operations is deemed a failure.

Past defense force military operations have been deemed failures, with commanders reportedly blaming Amhara region politicians for these setbacks.
