Toronto – The Tigray region of Ethiopia is reportedly witnessing a new political movement aimed at ending oppression in the region.

The movement calls itself “Tintag Woledo Tigray,” which can be translated as “Tigray’s Fire Generation.” Based on information provided on the organization’s social media page, the movement is operating across the region.

According to a report by Ethiopian Reporter, the movement is currently clandestine. It aims to enable people in the region to exercise free choice and have the right to determine their leaders, as well as to live in peace.

In an interview with Ethiopian Reporter, the organizers—who spoke on condition of anonymity due to safety concerns and to avoid pressure—offered insights that reflect the current political climate in the region. A few years ago, the region witnessed the killing of a young leader from another movement.

The new political movement has been in development for about a year, but it was only publicly announced a month ago.

“Oppression is oppression, whether it comes from outside or from within; fight it!” reads the organization’s motto, as shared on its social media page.

The “growing oppression and autocratic nature of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF)” and the general political environment of the region are cited as motivating factors behind the formation of this organization.

In 2020, a movement called “Fenkil Tigray” was launched in the region. However, its leader, Yemane Negussu, was killed, with reports at the time suggesting that the TPLF was linked to his death. The “Fenkil Tigray Movement” was subsequently weakened.

Organizers of the new movement, Tintag Woledo Tigray, told The Ethiopian Reporter that they have not yet experienced any actions on the part of those in power that are intended to stop their activities.

When asked how their organization differs from the Fenkil Tigray Movement, the coordinator stated, “We are done with appeasing a force that is oppressive. We are also fed up with resorting to migration to escape it. Our movement will use force whenever it must.”

The new organization claims to have a growing membership, including members from the “Tigray Defense Force.”

  1. This is a new high tech startup product of a Silicon Valley; Ethiopian style. I myself just finished giving it the final touch to a spanking new outfit that I will launch tomorrow at 06:00PM after the office of the National Election Board is closed. I heard they like nitpicking on new parties. My new party’s name is called Black Mane/Wild Ass Liberation Party with an initial conference attending membership of 10 million. My new party’s headquarter is located at the foothill of Gaaraa Asabot. Hey PP! In the next election, you’re toast!!! My Wild Ass Part members will kick some ass!!!

  2. Make that:

Somebody here who is a member of the wild ass community liked it already.

  3. Dear Editors of this esteemed website,

I just noticed someone is using the name I used in posting my comments above to denigrate me. This is not the first time it happened to me on your website. My customized software installed on my computer has been catching several attempts by others to track my ID down and steal my profile. Almost all of them are from Toronto area.

I am fiercely independent and do not talk for someone else. I don’t owe anyone anything. I speak what is on my mind and I am picky where to post my comments. I post them on website where I feel I am protected. That was what I always when I come to your website. Was I mistaken? I hope not.

Please look into the comment denigrating me above and take the proper step to protect your audience.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

You need to protect your readers by making it impossible for scumbags. This could have far reaching legal ramifications. As you might expect, we all still have relatives living in the old country.

    • Dear Editors,

Thank you for being diligent in following thru my case. I use legitimate email to post all my comment on your esteemed website because of the trust and confidence I have in your capacity to protect your audience. This is not the first time someone either using my name to post comment on your website. Some faceless person traced my email address I used to post a comment here on your website and tried to trace me down for whatever reason. I have reported the incidence to the email provider and they have promised me to take the proper legal action when they locate the dog.
