Toronto – During his parliamentary address earlier this week, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed informed members of parliament (95 percent of whom are from his ruling Prosperity Party) that 400 kilograms of gold had been “discovered” from Jubilee Palace, also known as the National Palace which was built during the reign of Emperor Haileselassie I.
“We are depositing 400 kilograms of gold to the National Bank,” he announced, suggesting that the gold was newly discovered during the palace’s renovation. “We have formed a committee to weigh it and deposit it to the National Bank,” he added, which seemed somewhat contradictory.
However, information that emerged after his speech suggests a different narrative.
Elias Meseret, former AP freelancer and owner of Meseret Media, posted on his X page that the gold was not in bar form.
According to the information he shared , Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was painting a picture of newly discovered treasure when in fact it consisted of gold utensils previously used at the palace and gold artifacts gifted to the emperor by other countries.
The source also mentioned that the Prime Minister was advised to keep the items under heritage protection or at the National Museum rather than deposit them in the National Bank. Nevertheless, the Prime Minister’s insistence overruled the recommendation.
The Jubilee Palace
In his parliamentary speech, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed also claimed that only his government had shown concern for the palace. “Because it is a feudal house, no governments wanted to see it, let alone touch it,” he stated, portraying his government as the first to undertake its renovation.
He even asserted that the palace would have collapsed had his government not undertaken the renovations, for which they hired an Italian contractor, Baldero.
“What we have built in that palace in the past two years is greater than the work that was already there. No doubt about that,” the Prime Minister claimed during his parliamentary address.
Abiy Ahmed himself is overseeing the construction of a new palace under the “Chaka Project,” reportedly worth $15 billion. He declined to disclose the project’s financial sources to parliament.

The people of Ethiopia will not and should never forget what he has done for them during their starving and trying days in 1985. The great Ray Charles was there. Michael Jackson, Diane Warwick, Diana Ross, Bob Dylan, Journey, Cyndi Lauper, Lionel Ritchie, Born In The USA Bruce, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, Banana Boat Harry Belafonte, the Pointer Sisters, Waylon Jennings, you name it. He was able to bring together top musicians from every genre to sing in a single that generated millions for the good cause. There were liberals, anarchists and sworn conservatives among them but he was able to bring them together for the cause.
While this great friend of Ethiopia was working 24/7 to help his African friends, what were those commie niggers doing from their hideouts in the bushes, you may ask?
