Five bodies have been recovered so far and a search operation is underway to recover the missing body. The Police commission did not say if there are more missing people.
The police commission also reported another landslide in the Adiyo district of Bekaffa zone. However, the number of people affected is unspecified yet as the search operation was interrupted by heavy rain.
Inspector Atnaf Abate, head of the zone police commission, added that potential landslides in the area of the accident and a dense fog made the search effort difficult. ” A search operation based on caution to avoid another accident is underway,” the inspector is cited as saying.

Floods and flood induced landslides have killed hundreds in USA, Taiwan, Japan, Brazil, Central America, France, Spain, Nigeria, Malawi, now Ethiopia and in many other countries. Torrential rainfall is becoming the worst natural disaster killer these days. Due to curiosity and the enduring love I still have for the old country, I watch the weather radar and earthquake data at least every other day. Lately, I have been noticing rain falling in most of the country including Eritrea most days of the week. It is unusual for that part of the country for this time of the year. But I take it as part of the cyclical nature of the weather of the earth. We read stories of killer floods in The Holy Scriptures of both religions that happened thousands of years ago. I am not going into this unending debate of climate change. All we have to do is get together and help those affected by this devastation in every way we can.
May the victims rest in eternal peace!!!
