Toronto –  It has been four good years since 17 female Dembi Dollo University Students from Amhara region were reportedly abducted by OLF Shane – radical ethnic Oromo militant group operating in the region. It was reported at the time the students were abducted from the area.

Now a new claim is emerging, and from Ethiopia’s Defense Chief of Staff. In his latest interview with a pro-government journalist, Sisay Agena, Field Marshal Berhanu Jula said it was not Shane (“Oromo Liberation Army”) that kidnapped the students. “It was a group with a plan B that kidnapped them. ”

The entity he called “group with plan B” was unspecified. But it was clear from what he said that he was making a reference to a political force in the Amhara region of Ethiopia.

The Defense chief went further and made claims that the kidnapped female students were “taken to Bahir Dar.”  However, he did not answer the question “where Bahir Dar?”  The answer was “we have information and we will get to it.”

He was fitting in the story of the kidnapped girls to the new narrative that National Movement of Amhara (NaMA) recruited a man from Dembi Dollo with ethnic Amhara roots and made arrangements for him to infiltrate within the militant Oromo nationalist group – OLA . According to Berhanu Jula, this man was named “Jal Chala” but his real name is “Ashenafi Gonder.”  He is talking about a man that is influential within the OLA militant group.

It appears that what the narrative that the Defense Chief unveiled is Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government position.  He vowed “everything will be exposed.”

New Narrative on ethnic Amharas massacred in Wollega

The recurring massacre of ethnic Amharas in rural communities in the Wollega area of Oromia region has been making headlines on Ethiopian news outlets for several years now. Most, if not all, of the killings were linked to OLA. According to the Defense Chief, that too was the work of another group, the details of which he did not disclose, not the work of OLA. In a way, he is absolving the OLA.

Human Rights Organizations in the country and abroad have reported about the massacres that OLA has been undertaking in the Oromia region.

Meanwhile, the massacre of Ethiopian Orthodox Church followers and priests continues to be a target of the militant group in the Oromia region which is believed to be working with some within the government structure. Just last week, a priest was slain with his spouse and three children in the Mojo area of Oromia region, which is less than 100 kilometers from the capital Addis Ababa.

  1. This idiot talks so much nonsense. A complete buffoon. A toy little abiy plays with however he sees it fit. An illiterate mouthpiece of a shit show government. You can see his stress and defeat in his eyes, manner, and demeanor. And when he lies, oh boy…he looks away from the camera or bows his head quickly like a shy little girl. A complete waste of a human being!!!

  2. Say what? If what the general is saying about the abducted college girls is true(I don’t know how), it is an Academy Prize worthy of an intelligence work. If those innocent girls were freed and are now with their loved ones in the capital of the Amhara region, I will jump up and down with joy. Let’s not discredit the general yet for saying this. We should ask the question ‘What embolden the general to make such a brazen claim?’. Remember they 18 of then and not just one or two. By now one of them would be talking about it validating the general’s bold face claim. But there has not been one so far. How about the parents and loved ones? At least one of them could have confirmed his story too. I will leave the investigative work up to the dear editors of this esteemed website.

But there is another claim by the general that rattle the nerve with me. A friend called me this morning to tell me what the general said about OLF, ONLF and TPLF. I want the dear editors of Borkena to verify that for me by translating what he said into English. My friend told me that the general had said that these three ‘liberation’ front never harmed innocent citizens that they pass the death penalty on those in their armies(rag tags) who hurt civilians. How does he know that? Was he one of them in the bushes in the 1980’s and 1990’s? So I ask the folks I trust, the dear editors of this esteemed website to verify that for me. If he had said that about the fronts in Eritrea I would have believed him with a reservation. But ONLF and OLF? I may give him the benefit of the doubt about the TPLF even then those food aid worker murdered by its rag tags during the height of 1980’s famine is not lost on me? So, how does the general know the level of operation rules and discipline in those fronts? So dear editors! You are on an assignment from this beyond-repair Afro-Ethio-Centric junkie!!!!

  3. Hey all of you Oromos, Amharas and Tigre’s, listen up! This is your designated and anointed liberator talking. All of don’t know how to fight. You are a bunch of sissy’s. I have gathered about 300 bulletproof soldiers and I will send 100 each of them to Oromia, Amhara and Tigray regions to liberate your sorry sissy behind. You don’t even know how to present your cases. If I were you, I would just shut up and let people think I am a mute horse.
