Six years ago, TPLF lost its central leadership after 27 years in power in Ethiopia. They were a powerful force in the Horn of Africa. Their leadership had strong networking and collaboration with the international order. However, when they left in 2018, a vacuum of leadership was created, giving an opportunity to those who were in the vicinity of power. Hence, incompetent, incapable, and opportunistic individuals assumed power in the country. Remember, this group of people were there by design from the beginning. The TPLF chose them so that they would serve its interests. For almost three decades, they bowed down to the TPLF order by oppressing their own people. Now they have control of the tank and bank of the country. When such power fell into their hands accidentally, they could not believe it themselves. That is why they are acting strangely to hold on to it, leading the country to the brink of disaster. Their philosophy, their vision, their strategies and their views are inconsistent, and they are confused. They have got a huge opportunity, but they are messing it up hugely. What comes out from their mouth shows how these people were not supposed to be where they are now. Everything they do shows they are not sophisticated enough to lead the country of 125 million people and the Horn of Africa on a stable path. Ethiopia is in turmoil due to a lack of proper leadership.
Before these people assumed power in 2018, the country was heading toward an all-out ethnic conflict everywhere. There was conflict between the Tigray and Amhara regions due to Raya and Wolkait, conflict between the Somali region and Oromia, and another conflict between the Afar and Somali regions, and so on. All these conflicts have roots in the constitution of the country, which divided the country along ethnic lines. Ethnic-based politics is a recipe for division and disaster. Any person with sound judgment knows that. When a political program is designed based on one’s ethnic roots, it becomes problematic for others to join that political party. Since a person’s fate is decided at birth—born into a family that might belong to one or more ethnic groups. When people in one country are conditioned to think only about optimizing their own benefits without compromise, it becomes the root cause of every problem. The current leaders’ thinking, reasoning, and ability to lead do not extend beyond this ethnic-based anarchic mindset. They cannot perceive a world beyond that. They use this to hold on to power and wealth. That is what they breathe and what they do day in and day out. They are not in the business of governing a stable and prosperous country. They are not engaged in the very simple responsibilities of a government: providing security and justice to the people. When it comes to keeping the power they obtained accidentally, they can galvanize ethnic hatred against one group of people, leading to the deaths of one million individuals, and award the generals who perpetrated these acts. Now, they also send the entire military against another ethnic group that has the potential to take power from their hands. They are doing exactly what the Hutus did to the Tutsis during the Rwandan genocide.
Let the world know that there is an ethnic-based conflict leading to repeated genocides in the country. Since the TPLF-led constitution was implemented, there has been the development of ethnic divisions leading to the disintegration of the country. If these leaders were wise and humble, they could have asked themselves the very question: how can a system that does not serve the TPLF, our former bosses, help us stay in power? This is a simple question they can answer. Change that ethnic-strife-driven constitution. Create a more stable and harmonious country. Create a more tolerant country. Build bridges between ethnic groups and dismantle ethnic-based politics and political parties. Create programs that can help the brainwashed generation of the past three decades. These leaders hoped to do exactly these things. But they were incapable. They want to use the old way – by holding on to the TEREGNINET philosophy (it is our time for the elites of our ethnic group—not the people of that ethnic group). This does not work in the current Ethiopian context. Only a fool can think like that, as they say, “only a fool repeats the same mistakes.” Of course, some of their former bosses have amassed wealth during the 27 years of power – not the people they claim to represent. Now, these accidental power holders want to do the same, thinking they will stay in power for 27 years or beyond. But the world around them is crumbling after two years in power. The past three years have been a continuous bloody war with other ethnic groups in a way the world has never seen in the 21st century. There is no war so far in this century that has killed over a million people—only in Ethiopia! The world is silent on this genocidal program of ineffective leaders.
Time for these incapable people to go down in disgrace. It is time for Ethiopians to think better and come together to stop this madness displayed in broad daylight. Ethiopia and Ethiopians know better. We need to call on the better angels of our society to heal the country. These bloody people should go away soon! Let the international order know that we Ethiopians are watching what you do. Helping these incapable leaders means you are against the Ethiopian people. History will judge you!
