Toronto – In his latest interview with Anchor Media, Asres Mare Damte who is deputy chair and head of the political division of Fano forces in Gojjam shared his views on the latest Fano activity and the development in Somalia.
With regard to Fano, he said that the Gojjam Fano has been engaged in extensive military and political training while still undertaking fighting against government forces in the area. The political and military stature of Fano forces is growing further.
On the issue of the development in Somalia – including the move from Egypt, Asres gave rather a measured response. While he stressed the need to take time to stand on it, he also stressed that the Abiy Ahmed government will not hesitate to exploit the situation to consolidate his power. Asrese made a reference to the situation in North West Ethiopia a few years ago. “If it was about defending the sovereignty of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed could have reacted when Sudan invaded about 70 kilometers of Ethiopian land,” he said.
Asres also shared his view that the focus of Amhara will not be away from the struggle to topple Abiy Ahmed’s government.
