Toronto – Taye Atsekeselassie, Ethiopia’s Minister For Foreign Affairs, had a press briefing with local and foreign media outlets.
Highlighting the foundation of Ethiopia’s foreign policy, which he said is focused on relations with neighbours, the minister shared information on current developments in the region.
Ethiopia on Thursday sent an Ambassador to Somaliland in response to the deployment of Egyptian troops in Somalia which Ethiopia called “national secuirty threat.”
There are widespread protests in Somalia against the presence of Egyptian forces in Somalia, according to sources from the region who spoke to borkena. However, it remains to be seen how strong the anti-Egypitan sentiment is.
Hasssan Shiek Mohammed’s govermnmetn in Mogadishu cancelled secluded talks in Ankara for early september and signed a military pact with Egypt.
Ethiopia has reportedly built up troops along its border with Somalia following the news of Egyptian troops deployment. Mechanized forces are now close to the border.
There are fears that the situation could deteriorate with no time.
