Somaliland Government condemns Egyptian Military Presence in Somalia

Somaliland _ Ethiopia

Toronto – Somaliland Government on Thursday released a statement condemning Egyptian Military presence in Somalia.

It came  days after two Egyptians Military Planes arrived in Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu carrying military equipment ahead of 10,000 Egyptian troops to be deployed in Somalia.

“Given the history of such deployments, the lack of assessment or consideration for the stability and security of Somalia and the entire Horn of Africa region is concerning,” said Somaliland’s statement.

Somaliland, a de facto state that existed for more than 33 years breaking away from Mogadishu government, sees danger for its existence due to Egyptian military presence, and is vowing to take actions. Earlier year, Somaliland signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ethiopia to rent a coastal land for the latter on a fifty years term – a development that pushed the government in Mogadishu to sign a military pact with Egypt and ultimately invite Egypt to deploy 10,000 military forces. Somalia’s action is expected to take the security crisis in the Horn of Africa to a new level.

“The Republic of Somaliland will not stand idly by in the face of actions that threaten its hard-won peace and the stability of the region,” it said.

The full statement reads as follows :

“Somaliland Government Strongly Condemns Egyptian Military Presence in Somalia

Hargeisa, Somaliland – August 29th, 2024 – The Government of the Republic of Somaliland strongly objects to the recent deployment of Egyptian military forces in Somalia. Given the history of such deployments, the lack of assessment or consideration for the stability and security of Somalia and the entire Horn of Africa region is concerning.

The Republic of Somaliland finds this development to be aggravating the already fragile peace that has been painstakingly established over the years, both by the people of Somaliland and countries in the region. The introduction of foreign military forces into neighboring Somalia, under any pretext, risks destabilizing the region, undermining peace efforts, and escalating tensions that could have far-reaching and catastrophic consequences.

As a sovereign and democratic nation in the Horn of Africa we take it upon us like other neighbouring countries to categorically reject any foreign military presence in the region that could jeopardize the stability and security of our people.

We call upon the international community to urgently condemn this potentially dangerous move by Egypt. It is imperative that all responsible nations act swiftly to prevent further destabilization and to promote diplomatic solutions that respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations in the Horn of Africa.

The Republic of Somaliland will not stand idly by in the face of actions that threaten its hard-won peace and the stability of the region. We urge our international partners to closely monitor this alarming situation and to take immediate steps to safeguard the security and stability of Somaliland and the broader region.”

  1. so called somaliland is a creation of british colonial adventure whose objective was to break up somalia along clan /ethnic lines to facilitate the colonial ambition and thus giving britain a foothold in the horn of africa which was then and now one of the main naval/shipping routes along the red sea coast. Clandestinely, britain still recognises somaliland as an independent country, with no link to the main land somalia,
There is no doubt that Abiy ahmad , the puppet of the west, who once said he would work as an agent for america, is receiving backing from the mischievous britain for his relationship with somaliland. there is no doubt about it.
