Toronto –  The United States rejected Ethiopian Ambassador designate to the United States, Lencho Bati, according to Ethiopian sources.

The news has been rumored for weeks now but it was on Tuesday that many local Ethiopian News sources reported about the issue.

Lencho Bati has a history of membership with the radical ethnic Oromo Nationalist Group – Oromo Liberation Front (OLF). But he apparently  changed his political stance a little before Abiy Ahmed took power as Prime Minister in 2018. Later, he joined Abiy Ahmed’s government and has served as Ethiopian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Lencho had been a long time resident of the United States when he was a member of Oromo Liberation Front(OLF). According to sources, U.S. rejection of him as Ambassador of Ethiopia has something to do with charges he was facing when he was living in the U.S.

He worked at Minnesota State University, in Mankato.

Some sources on social media  link the rejection to Lencho’s history of “sexual assault” in the United States. It is unclear if the United States’ State department sent a rejection letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.

A few months ago, Seleshi Bekele, Ethiopian Ambassador to the United States and former Minister For Irrigation and Water Resources and one of Ethiopia’s Chief negotiators on GERD, was called to Addis Ababa.

The Ethiopian government has not remarked, at this writing,  about the rejection of Ambassador Lencho Leta.

  1. This is a demotion to him anyway because he will be the prime minister when his buddy hooligans now wandering aimlessly in Western Wallagaa establish a republic there. Then he will eliminate every living and breathing ‘neftegna’ and ‘neo-Gobena’ out there.

  2. Sexual assault? That is a serious crime. Such are individuals who have been speaking on my behalf and the rest of my Oromos? I’ve never been insulted as such. Sexual assault is rape and a rapist as an ambassador? Not on Good Ole USA’s watch!!! They can make him an ambassador to the dens of proven rapists in Moscow and Beijing or even better yet in Pyongyang.

  3. Your article titled “United States rejects Ethiopia’s Ambassador-Designate Lencho Leta” is erroneous. Leencho Leta is not the person Ethiopia designated to be Ambassador to the United States. You are confusing Lencho Leta and Lencho Bati.

  4. Absolutely. That was undiplomatic, unprofessional and inside job of tribal political hack done by Abiy and his gangs. What an embarrassing diplomatic fiasco.
