Ethiopia Raises Serious National Security Concerns As Egypt Deploys Troops To Somalia

“Forces trying to inflame tension[in the region] for their short-term and futile objectives must shoulder the grave repercussions,” says Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Toronto – The Ethiopian government is responding to the deployment of over 10,000 Egyptian military forces in Somalia.

In a statement  the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia released on Wednesday, it said, without naming names, “Ethiopia is concerned that the transition from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to a new peace support mission is fraught with dangers to the region.”

The statement from the ministry explicitly highlighted that “forces trying to inflame tension for their short-term and futile objectives must shoulder the responsibility.”

Ethiopia’s statement came a day after two  C-130 Egyptian Military planes landed in Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu carrying military equipment ahead of the deployment of 10,000 Egyptian military forces as part of the “Defense pact” between Somalia Federal government and Egypt.

Somalia offers a military base for Egypt – who has been trying to secure one for a long time in light of the latter’s tension with Ethiopia over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on Abay River (Nile River) whose construction is said to be 97 percent completed. The reservoir now holds well over 42 billion cubic meters of water. The size of the dam is now, according to Ethiopian government officials, twice the size of Ethiopia’s largest lake – Tana.

The statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also mentioned that the development in Somalia undermines gains over the terrorist groups in the region and that it can not be tolerated. “Ethiopia can not tolerate these actions that endanger the gains made against regional and international terrorist groups.”

Statement from the ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia in response to Egyptian deployment of troops

Before the arrangement for Egyptian Military Forces Somalia, Turkey – a country that “initiated” what now appears to be unsuccessful indirect talk between Ethiopia and Somalia – had its largest military base in Somalia.

The deployment of Egyptian forces in Somalia has alarmed Ethiopia. “…Ethiopia can not stand idle while other actors are taking measures to destabilize the region. Ethiopia is vigilantly  monitoring the developments in the region that could threaten its national security,” added the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Both Egypt and Somalia have a history of war against Ethiopia. In the 19th century, Egyptian forces invaded Ethiopia but their forces lost to major battles in Gudent and Gura – in the present day Eritrea. Somalia invasion of Ethiopia came following the outbreak of the Ethiopian Revolution as the country appeared weak then. But Somalian forces were decisively defeated following a massive mobilization and with modest military support from friendly countries.

The latest tension between Ethiopia and Somalia developed after Ethiopia signed a memorandum of understanding with Somaliland to get access to the sea on a 50 years rental basis which Hassan Sheik Hassan’s government of Somalia sees as a “violation of Somalian sovereignty.” The talk that Turkey “initiated” was intended to resolve the difference. Ethiopia says “progress was made” during the two rounds of talks. The third round was scheduled to take place in early September but Somalia withdrew from it, and instead signed a military defense pact with Egypt.

Abiy Ahmed government is currently waging war in the Amhara region and Oromia regions of Ethiopia.  Recent reports from the Ethiopian government  indicate that the militant Oromo rebel group operating in the Oromia region ( it calls itself Oromo Liberation Army) has links with Al-Shabaab forces.

  1. The well planned war is being executed from two directions. One 150,000 well armed and trained expeditionary of combined force of Villa Mogadishu, Al-Qahirah and Ankara coming from the south has already reached just 100 miles from Addis/Finfinne. The 2nd well Sawa trained Fano force and 100,000 strong Piccolo Roma commando unit in the rear have reached just 50 miles of the GERD dam cutting down all electrical cable and selling it at the black market in Piccolo Roma and Al-Qahirah. The expeditionary force coming from the south used OLA hoodlums as guides, cooks and beasts of burden and occasionally jumping jack a&s&s whenever el-Sisi sneezes. It is reported that Ol’ Cap’n Cotchipee el-Sisi and his entire cabinet members are on their way to take the keys and ownership of the GERD dam from Fano wanderers and Piccolo Roma commando units. The handover includes the entire area from Lake Tana where the Blue Nile originates and its entire course inside Ethiopia. Af-Mishaar has left LA for Awash to take inventory of the reclaimed Somali territory. Arsi The Masticator is heading to Villa Mogadishu to accept his Somali Abo-ness. Excuse me for a moment. I have an old Somali spiritual to serenade you with. Silence!!!

Ouch! I just broke my legs jumping for nothing!!!!

  2. Abo Ittu
Sorry bro, are you still sure if Abiy still doing the right diplomatic, political and military maneuvers or is he just wrought havoc and basically fudged up everything on earth? Rest assured, just admit it yourself once the really on the ground so that you could be libetated and healed from the torturous infestation from the Oromuma ethnic rat holes, their twisted ideologies and the greatness of the delusions of the grandeur.

  3. Folks,

Let me be serious and lets all be serious. Assume Egypt will use the proximity of Somalia Mogadishu(Remember there are more than one Somalias now excluding Somaliland) to send its panhandled bomber jets to do some harm on the old country. What has been said to be its presumed primary target? The GERD dam, right? Let’s say it did that killing thousands of daily laborers toiling there building the dam. Let’s assume that was successfully carried out. Then what? Remember the dam has created a massive body of water behind it and there are millions of tons of silt sitting down there layers upon layers. The bombing is gonna create a huge shock on the dam that it will burst into massive gushing water. Such suddenly massive gushing water mixed with millions cubit feet of silt will create what hydrologist call an alluvial tsunami. Such alluvial tsunami has in its nature to change the direction of the course of rivers. So in this case The Blue Nile could end up flowing backwards to where it came from. That means Egypt can kiss and say goodbye to every drop of water coming from the Blue Nile. Forever that is.

The other matter the Arab b-o-o-t-l-i-c-k-e-r-s at the Villa Mogadishu should never forget is about Wabi Shebele, Genale and Dawa rivers to count the few. I’m just saying.

  4. Let’s also assume that Egypt will somehow creates its own pretext(one being its soldiers being attacked in Somalia) and decides to send its soldiers into Ethiopia on punitive military expedition. Let’s assume that and picture it’s fat cat lard ass soldiers going boing boing in the highlands of Western Hararghe. Boy, I can see how that my Itu dardaraa rifleman sitting there right now salivating for their arrival. What a big blob of an easy target!!! You are not done yet. Now imagine that halawa bulged belly soldier from Al-Qahirah rumbling around in the highlands of Amhara, Sidama, Gambela and escarpments of Tigray. You are salivating right now even though you live thousands of miles away just thinking about it, right? I am. I did not even start pressing you to look at the reception they will get from our patriot Somali and Afar brothers and sisters. I can see that Issa and Asoba young man there spitting fire jumping and daring!!! I can see them right now screaming with ‘Let’s go! Give me your best shot you son of a thousand fathers!’. Ooo wee!!! I recall a true story from the 1967 Middle East war where only about 300 Israeli commandos forcing the surrender of the whole division of Gamal Abdel Nasser’s fat ass soldiers in the Sinai theater. That was 300 capturing more than 10,000 armed to the teeth soldiers. There were women in the triumphant 300.

Just picture that and have at it!!! I’m just saying, bigots and connivers in Minnesota, LA, Toronto, Oslo and Down Under notwithstanding.

  5. Meanwhile, I urge those who armed this madman in Al-Qahirah to the teeth telling him to calm down. They should reign in their orphan there not to even think about it. All what those black folks are doing is to take themselves out of darkness without harming their fellow neighbors near and afar.
