Toronto – Ethiopia’s Federal Police on Sunday announced that it has arrested six suspects linked to the non-compliance incident involving Ethiopian Airlines domestic flight to North Ethiopia on November 22 , 2024.
On that day, the airlines announced redirection or delay of flights due to the foggy weather condition at Bole International Airport. However, Mekelle bound passengers were agitated and resisted to deboard the plane after a prominent Tik Toker rejected the safety related decision of the airlines.
Yohannes Daniel Berhe, one of the six suspects, was recording video of himself attempting to create a brawl-like situation when the hostesses were asking passengers to deboard. He also resisted the airline security whom he recorded and aired on social media.
Police are alleging that the six suspects violated Ethiopian civil aviation laws and practices. Police announced on its social media [age that it is investigating the suspects for “terrorism” charges.
Video footage of the incident shared on social media purportedly shows one of the suspects creating a chaotic situation demanding that the plane has to fly even if “the condition [weather ] leads to the plane’s crash.”
Police said they forced Ethiopian Airlines flight crew to make the plane fly despite the announced weather condition and caused a brawl.
Police also allege that the suspects “accepted mission from anti-peace forces”
The video went viral on social media. From several social media posts, many Ethiopians who watched the video were angered by the Tik Toker’s rude and violent behavior towards Ethiopian Airlines crew members who were attempting to explain the situation professionally.
Amanuel Mewucha Abraha, Nathenael Wondwossen Shume, Elias Driba Bedane, Yidedya Netsanet Abebe and Eleni Kinfe Tekleab are the other suspects listed in the police disclosure.
On August 22, Ethiopian Airlines announced that it has redirected several flights – including intentional ones – due to the weather condition.
Police unspecified when it is completing the investigation and when the suspects are appearing in court facing terrorism charges.

This one looks ready to run to Mogadishu and Al-Qahirah to plea his case to his designated masters. Such thugs should be banned from flying for life. That is what airlines punishes you here in the West. You could also be charged with terrorism here in the US. This is not funny!
The terrorist accusations are really a stretch. A silly kid, drunk on popularity, confused by the imaginary power his TikTok followers gave him, overestimated his power and influence. He will learn his lesson the hard way… Hopefully he will serve as an example for all the others influencers/activists (sic) that also have a big mouth but a tiny brain.
The world of social media is a matrix, a simulation, not a real thing. Everyday people and even his followers have turned against him now, since they just wanna see blood and cheap entertainment…
I feel a bit sorry for him, but hopefully he will serve as an example to other young men and women to NOT follow his example.
