News Alert : Egypt reportedly forming a new ethnic Somali rebels within Ethiopia

Egypt _ Somali region _ Ethiopia

Toronto – Borkena has received information that Egypt is reportedly working on establishing a rebel group from Somali region special forces.

The source who claims to live in the Somali region of Ethiopia and has knowledge of the development says about “621 Somali regional special police forces have crossed the border into Somalia.”  Some senior commanders are said to be part of a Somali regional group that crossed to Somalia.

The informant also claimed to have information from within the regional government.  He said  “It is believed that Egypt is looking to establish new armed rebel groups in the Somali region and is considering using the Somali special police members for this purpose.”

As per the informant,  “the Egyptian Government Intelligence Agency has been contacted regarding the situation. “

At this point, no other sources have reported about the story. Borkena has reached out to Somali Regional State Communication Bureau via e-mail for clarification. Readers will be updated if the Somali regional state is responding to the matter.

Earlier this week, Anchor Media reported that four Ethiopian Intelligence Officials defected to Al-Shabab with sensitive information that could impair Ethiopia’s National Security.

Abiy Ahmed’s navigation of foreign policy in the area has been putting Ethiopia at a risk of vulnerability to additional conflict and terror attacks.

There is an active war going on in the Amhara region of Ethiopia for over  a year now. The Oromia region itself – where Abiy Ahmed is from – has been experiencing armed conflict between the militant Oromo nationalist group that calls itself Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) and  Abiy Ahmed led Federal government.

Background on Egypt, Ethiopia and Somalia Relations

Somalia and Egypt recently signed a defense agreement. Egypt will be sending troops to Somalia as the latter has been demanding for Ethiopian peacekeeping forces to no longer be part of the peace keeping mission.

Relations between Ethiopia and Somalia deteriorated after the former signed a memorandum of understanding with Somaliland – a breakaway region in the north that has been existing as a de facto state.

Since the signing of the MoU on January 1, 2024, Somalia has been waging a diplomatic campaign against Ethiopia  – mostly approached Eritrea and Egypt.

Egypt itself has been pursuing a hostile policy towards Ethiopia. The trigger for it since 2011 has been the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.

Historically both Egypt and Somalia fought wars against Ethiopia.  Egypt and Ethiopia fought the war towards the end of the 19th century. Egypt lost two battles at Gundet and Gura and its aggression was reversed.

Somalia and Ethiopia fought in the late 1970’s after Somalia made an incursion into Ethiopia controlling more than 700 kilometers of Ethiopian land. The invasion was later reversed.

  1. I ain’t surprised by Egypt’s action, if this report holds water. But I doubt it our Somali brothers and sisters will be swayed by el-Sisi’s scheme. If it bears any wait, that should not come as a surprise as far as Egypt is concerned. Its centuries old scheme is to go all out for a land grab and take possession of the source of the Blue Nile River. That has been its ultimate. First it tried to invade the old country by sending ground troops more than once even hiring battle seasoned military officers from America after the Civil War of the 1860’s. It failed and failed miserably. Then, a century later Gamal Abdel Nasser came up with a better idea; organizing a proxy group that led the creation of a ‘liberation front’ in 1960. He found the best and most loyal beasts of burden then but that did not go further than a secession. The source of the Blue Nile River is still in firm hands of Ethiopia.

Now what? May be trying from the south side is the better way to go, thinks el-Sisi. He may have found another even more subservient mule in the incarnation of Ziad Barre in Villa Mogadishu now with Turkey providing the coleslaw. Egypt’s modern plan for our old country has been to slice it away at the peripheries piece by piece first and then deal a fatal stab at its heart. Will it succeed this time around? In its previous attempts, the two backbones of the old country were united in standing up to the bullies in Al-Qahirah but this time the two groups of people are in chaos fighting tooth and nail among themselves. Oromos are fighting and killing Oromos. Amharas are fighting and killing Amharas. Woe my beloved gem of the colored!!!

  2. A few years ago one of my dear Eritrean friends had sent me the link I have attached below showing Brother Isaias Afewerki’s statement. In the video President Isaias clearly points out Egypt’s real intentions in helping the Eritrean fronts from their very beginning. It conveniently includes subtitles in English for us who don’t understand the Eritrean language. It was right on the nose and I was thinking if he was talking to me about it before. I was telling my Eritrean friend what Egypt’s real intentions are behind helping anyone with a ‘liberation’ agenda in Ethiopia. Then he sent me the link. It was ELF and EPLF before and then TPLF, ONLF and OLF after that. Brother Isaias and EPLF turned out to be a bad investment for Egypt. TPLF was a reluctant customer to start with and ONLF was more loyal to Ziad Barre. OLF did not go beyond publishing fake and made up battle front victories. Let’s see what this latest ‘dagadash’ dancing party at Villa Mogadishu will produce for the ‘Superpower’ wannabe and sugar drunk el-Sisi in Al-Qahirah.

  3. Also, according to some credible sources, Abiy was allegedly planning and readying few weeks to attack Somalia but some foreign powers and friends argued him to backdown. And he was doing all that against and with the displeasure of many friends and well meaning friend countries and world diplomats. The Main frontal invasion and attack allegedly supposed be through the tribal separatist of the far northern region of Somalia lead by tribal warlord leader and Abiy’s most loyal toady of Col Muse Bihi. In that case, repercussions and potential spillover of violence across the border into the Somali region and parts eastern of Ethiopia , which is less affected by the ongoing civil war in the last few years, are definitely inevitable. Especially such scenario is very likely if the trajectory of current tensions between Ethiopia and Somalia instigated by the Ethiopian’s erratic and amatuerish leadership are unabated. Note that also the stability of the Somali region and the whole earn parts of Ethiopian is more dependent on the eastern borders in terms of trade and economic activity, socially and security and stability wise. So there will be nothing but only lose-lose outcome in the end for everyone concerned.

    • I thought you were from Ethiopia and never guessed you being an Eritrean. Why are you so hateful of Ethiopia and its generous people? In your Arab infested mind Ethiopia is the lone trouble maker and you dream of her being destroyed. I don’t believe most of Eritreans are like you. What I want to kindly suggest to you my neighbor is to leave us alone and keep yourself busy in your own country.
