Even though a large majority of the Amhara diaspora has a positive role in the survival struggle of the Amhara in Ethiopia, some seek to exploit it for personal interest or are misguided. The hard fact about the Amhara diaspora is its fragmentation, which negatively impacts the survival struggle.
Indeed, Amhara diaspora politics is crazy and dominated by selfish or less educated orators who nominated themselves as chief political analysts by force, regardless of expertise. Social media and even mainstream ones dominated and misused by those people to harm or hijack the struggle.
Disgustingly, some diasporas deliberately or unknowingly disseminate hatred and divisive ideas among Amhara and unsubstantiated garbage-in, garbage-out ideas without critical analysis. Even some who called themselves educated demarcated themselves at village-level insight instead of united Amhara. Some of the Amhara diasporas intentionally or naively served as weapons of Abiy’s regime.
Freedom fighters on the ground welcome unbiased comments and suggestions from the diaspora based on evidence. However, meritless and unfair criticism, the tendency to hijack the survival struggle, and unnecessary interference to twist the hands of freedom fighters for personal interests are completely unacceptable and should be stopped. The diaspora should only play a supportive role, not a decisive one.
Diaspora’s attempt to operate the struggle remotely by taking the steering wheel of the survival struggle while treating freedom fighters on the ground as tyres is a nightmare idea and unacceptable. The present generation of Amhara is well aware of the prices that will be paid if scammers hijack this survival struggle. Lessons had been taken from the prices paid because of the revolution hijacked by Abiy in 2018.
Clusters of fragmented Amhara diaspora are either negligent, confused, perplexing, hijackers, or conscious about Amhara’s survival struggle. Hijackers are the dangerous ones who want to achieve personal interest at the expense of others’ lives on the ground, or they are agents of Abiy’s regime.
A perplexing diaspora either lacks clarity of thought to gain a key insight into the struggle, they are agents of Abiy’s regime or hijackers. However, confused ones are victims of garbage-in, garbage-out ideas propagated by perplexes and hijackers. Confused groups should be quarantined from confusing ideas until having clarity about the survival struggle from tangible sources.
Inactive one is another group of diasporas consisting of some negligent elites having hazy stands. The elite group was expected to shape the orbit of struggle and point forth a strategic direction for freedom fighters. Unfortunately, the role of elites in the survival struggle is negligible. Even though they have a less negative role in the survival struggle, they are responsible for their silence instead of being a voice for the voiceless people of Amhara. Being silent at this time is immoral and it is time to react.
The slumber of elites served as the green light for hijackers and perplexing groups to take control of propaganda machines and play a negative role in the survival struggle. An important and merciful group of the diaspora is the conscious one, who has played a tremendously positive role in the survival struggle to save the people of Amhara from Abiy’s brutal regime.
Those who strive hard to harm and hijack Amhara’s survival struggle through your networks should be advised not to waste their time and money because it is impossible. Today is not yesterday and mistakes are not allowed. Millions of Amhara people have sacrificed their precious lives and money in this survival struggle to be free from Abiy’s regime. In addition to the brave Fanos who gave their lives on the ground, millions of Amharans kept an eye on the survival struggle to keep it safe from scammers.
Finally, those conscious diaspora groups are widely acknowledged for their positive role in Amhara’s survival struggle and should maintain it. On the other hand, the time is now for inactive elite groups to wake up and be voices for the people who are victims of atrocities.
