Toronto – Ethiopian Airlines seems to continue to be a target of defamations. Just two days after three “animal rights activists ” -foreigners – accused the airlines over the transportations of monkeys to the United States, the airline is facing another criticism in connection with three economic class passengers.
Yesterday, what appears to be a defamatory viral video against Ethiopian Airlines has been circulating on social media. It has got well over eight million views.
The video shows a passenger being deboarded from Nairobi bound ET308 Ethiopian Airlines Plane at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport on July 19th, 2024.
In a statement it released on Sunday, the airlines stated that it took time to investigate the video carefully.
According to the statement, the incidents seem to be related to an overbooking situation :
“Three individuals with standby economy class boarding pass arrived at the boarding gate just a few minutes before the scheduled departure time of the flight. The Boarding Agent advised them that the flight was full and they would be protected on the next flight. However, they ignored the advice of the Boarding Agent and attempted to board the aircraft bypassing security personnel at the boarding gate,” the airlines said in an explanation to the latest accusations whose motivations are unclear.
What happened after that was, according to Ethiopian Airlines investigations, that flight attendants asked the passengers to step off the plane. One passenger complied with the request while two others resisted and had to be escorted out of the plane by security.
There was a claim that the passengers were deboarded from the plane so as to make space for a “VIP” person. However, the video that shows the argument shows that it happened in an economy class section of the plane, and the airlines has confirmed it. It has also shared the standard practices of the airlines’ VIP flight arrangements.
The airlines stated : “It is pertinent to mention that these passengers were booked in economy class, and their seating was in no way influenced by the presence of a non-Ethiopian national VIP passenger in business class.”
The three passengers who were impacted by the overbooking situation were taken care off in the next flight – apparently the same day.
Last week,Jason Baker, who is said to be the Vice President of International Operations at animal rights organization PETA, his eleven years old son and another staffer were protesting against Ethiopian Airlines in connection with the transportation of monkeys to the United States. They made headlines trying to put the airlines in a negative light as they were briefly arrested in the capital Addis Ababa.
There have been several accusations against the airlines over the past few years and many of them seem to be motivated by sabotaging the airlines’ business by tarnishing its image although the airlines has not yet released remarks on the motivations of any of the accusations.

It is not unusual that when you manage to succeed exceedingly in what you do and move up in status, there will always be someone who will try to bring you down. This is an airline that has seen nothing but success when many others doomed thanks to its hard working staff and bright management. I am sure some of you had the chance to watch and listen what one bigot who is so-called aerospace expert to ABC NEWS said after the 737-MAX disaster. In his bigoted mind that crash was a result of a young and unexperienced pilot who was at the control of the plane. He even told the world that the airline has a history of forging and falsifying investigative reports. According to that protege of The White Citizens Council, there was nothing that went wrong with that aircraft. But he ended up eating his crows when the truth came out. I don’t think that bigot has changed his mind even yet because he thinks every pilot of this airline is not adequately trained, therefore is not qualified to fly planes.
The lawyers of the airline should start hitting back hard at these false accusers. It should be ready to be assaulted with false accusations coming at it from all directions. And you bigots and connivers among our Diaspora! I saw what we’re trying to do with such accusations. You grabbed and ran with it as if the airline is the ‘air force’ of the government. Some of you even tried to paint this airline as a den to those who hate Muslims. Shame, shame on you!!! I wish you were not even born.
