Ethiopian Defense Force says it captured Fano “logistic suppliers,” “new trainees”

Toronto – Ethiopian State Media on Saturday reported that the Commando Division of the Defense Force captured what it called the logistic supplier of the Fano group that is operating in the Ambasel district of South Wollo, Amhara region of Ethiopia.  

It also said that it has captured new trainees of Fanos. Based on the state media report, the captured trainees were 16 and one of them used to be head of Kalu district “extremist group” head whom it identified as Abdu Mohammed.  They were gathered as “Addis Ababa and Gishen Debre Kerbe” as their origin. 

Nega Fantahun was allegedly working as a logistics supplier to the Fano group in the Ambasel area, the report said. 

However, the report did not specify as to how long they were training. It did not specify where they were captured either. 

Fano forces in Wollo did not bother remarking on the government claims at the time of this writing. 

The Ethiopian government has not been remarking on multiples of reports from Ethiopian news outlets, with credible sources in the Amhara region, regarding continuous battles where the defense force reportedly suffered blowing defeats. 

There were even reports of assessments from the political leadership in the Amhara region that the war against Fano forces could not be won. But it was communicated internally with the Federal government authorities, according to local sources. 

With popular support in the region and beyond, Fano forces are now in control of over 70 percent of the Amhara region of Ethiopia ,and the government structures are reportedly collapsed. 

This past week, there were intense fighting in Gondar, Gojjam, Wollo and Shewa. The Fano forces, who are primarily employing guerrilla attack military strategy, have claimed major victories.

In Shewa, there were battles within a range of sixty kilometers from the capital Addis Ababa. In response to the situation, the government is said to have deployed huge forces in Shewa. 

In his latest appearance in the Ethiopian Parliament, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed attempted to denigrate the military power of Fano forces when painted a picture of Fano forces, a group of three with just AK 47. And this is a force in whose name the prime minister declared a state of emergency with a stated objective of “disarming” it. 

The state of emergency was extended and multiples of massive military mobilizations against Fano ended in fiasco, But the campaign made Fano forces more armed as they are reportedly arming themselves with the fire arms they seize in battle fields.
