Toronto – TPLF forces have reportedly made encroachment on Alamata town. Despite the core of the Pretoria agreement was for the TPLF forces to disarm, last month Getachew Reda – president of the interim administration in Tigray – announced that the organization still has 270,000 armed combatants.
An Ethiopian news outlet reported, on Monday, that the TPLF forces took control of several kebeles near Alamata town after fighting local militia forces who are under armed compared to TPLF forces.
Furthermore, locals have been making accusations that the Federal government facilitated the TPLF’s control of the area. After two years of bitter battle that is said to have claimed hundreds of thousands of lives, the TPLF and Abiy Ahmed’s administration resolved their differences and even moved in the line of military alliance. On the surface, the Federal government is making complaints that forces within the TPLF political quarter still want to wage war. It seems TPLF has decided to take Raya first rather than Wolkait area which is fortified and close to the Eritrean border.
The Federal government has not yet remarked about the military development in Raya and in connection with the accusation that the Defense Force has facilitated the military encroachment.
The Amhara regional state has not remarked about it either.
The TPLF has been enjoying political, diplomatic and other forms of support from the United States and its allies.
