Toronto – Amhara Fano National Movement (AFNM) on Friday announced the graduation of 2000 commando forces.
There had been several rounds of graduations in different parts of the Amhara region.
A video footage purportedly showing the graduation ceremony was circulating on social media.
Asres Mare, one of the key leaders of the movement who is also serving as head of AFNM public relation head, unveiled that the forces were trained under 64th division 201st corps. They were jointly trained by Menelik and Asamenew Commands.
Warkaw Mere Wodajo, Asres Mare, Bayou Alebachew (who is head of military operations) and invited guests have attended it. Zemene Kassie (Chairman of AFNM) and General Tefera Mamo, chief of AFNM forces, were not present but have conveyed congratulatory messages.
The location of it is undisclosed. From what Asres wrote, the training was going on not far from areas where government forces are deployed.
The development is another confirmation that Ethiopian Defense Force Chief of Staff, Field Marshal Berhanu Jula’s and other military commanders’ claim of Fano’s weakened power does not reflect the reality on the ground.
The Defense Force has been regularly sharing news releases on its social media page claiming the surrender and/or annihilation of “extremists” – a reference to Fano forces.

Fano forces on their part make a repeated claim of significant military gains despite the Defense Force continuing to use aerial drone strikes. There have been reports of the government targeting civilians in drone strikes and artillery shelling; the recent one was in Amhara Sayint targeting an ancient Ethiopian Orthodox church. BBC Amharic has covered the story. .
The Fano movement is estimated to have hundreds of thousands of forces across the Amhara region of Ethiopia.

Question: Why don’t the ‘Amara Fannos’ choose their favorite election observers and run in the upcoming election [on camera]?
‘Course Correction Advisory’: Amara Fanno [Misnomer] should become a Constructive Productive Force that raises the Amaras’ living standards & transforms the Amaras’ primitive life style than being a Bunch of Destructive Primitive Pirates Without Compass. See why:-
Epiphany in Gondèr: For the past few years, some Whites have been offering free water [in cups – from plastic barrels] to the visitors [along the main street]. How proud would Amaras be of their top tourist destination with no water fountain & sanitation facilities?
Gondèr’s Megech Dam Project [GMDP]: What would Abiy gain or lose whether Gondèr gets water or not? Isn’t GMDP for Gondèr’s potable water, sanitation facilities, and irrigation [food]? Why has the ‘Amara Fanno’ been sabotaging GMDP? Is it because Megech is Abbay’s tributary and GMDP may affect Egypt’s self-allotted water quota?
Amara Fanno’s Crimes [AFC]: I have posted AFC on Borkena many times. Gojjam & Gondèr are tourist destinations that lack water & sanitation facilities. Top that up with the glaring Amara rampant poverty. Do Amaras need Amara Fanno’s War on top of that?
TPLF-EPLF Era [1991-1998] | TPLF-EPRDF Era [1998-2018] | Abiy’s Era [2018-2026]: Ethiopia was under self-appointed brutal tribal looters for 27 years [1991-2018]. Although all ethnics were short-changed, Amaras got the worst raw deal. So, isn’t it high time that ‘Amara Fannos’ stopped their Tribal Wars, ran in the election, and gave Amaras the Peace they deserve?
It has been just a routine for both sides to come up with news releases when one side claims success in the stupid brawl. A few days ago there was a report by the regime media about a squad from this group that decided to give the fight and return to their villages and give peaceful struggle another chance. Then we have this at the heels of that news. It is a tie now in the photoshop and AI generating skills. It may seem comical but there is nothing funny about young people being marched into awaiting infernos. There is nothing entertaining to bust the move about losing a generation once again.
Make that:
‘that decided to give up the fight and return to their villages and give peaceful struggle another chance’.
