Toronto – Fano forces on Monday announced that they have killed 132 government forces in Jawi zone of Gojjam, Amhara region of Ethiopia.
The operation was in Kunber town.
It said three corps of the Tewodros Command of Amhara Fano National Movement (AFNM) – 105th, 206th and 201st – jointly conducted the operation on March 2 – on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of Adwa victory.
Fano forces also claimed that they have captured 32 government soldiers.
In terms of firearms, they say they have seized 200 individual assault rifles, 2 Bren machine guns, 4 sniper rifles, 2 Dsk, 50,000 ammunition, 4 radios and an unspecified number of hand grenades.
“Forces drawn from the three strong arm corps planned and entered all they way to the fortified enemy position where a human height trench was dug, and was able to annihilate and capture,” soldiers, Abebe Fantaw, a senior AFNM official, wrote on his social media page.
The Ethiopian Defense Force has not remarked on it at the time of this writing.
Rather, on Tuesday it made its own counter claim. It said that it has killed 203 “members of the extremists” following what it described as “planned operation” and by creating coordination in Eastern Command. The operation areas were, as it said, North Gojjam, West Gojjam and Awi community administration and central Gondar zones.
Furthermore, the defense force claimed that it has seized 46 AK 47 rifles, a PKM machine gun, a sniper, five hand grenades and ammunition.
Meanwhile, there are reports that government forces carried out drone strikes targeting civilians in Shawura – central Gondar. The incident took place in kebele 01 locality around 7 P.M.
According to Fano forces, those killed in the attack were identified as Aguaguoach Yihen Alem (women), Nanye Degu and Alemu Abita. The woman was fetching water, according to Fano forces.
There were also those who were wounded in the attack but the number is unspecified. The conditions of some of them are said to be serious.
It has been nearly two years since the government declared that the Fano forces were annihilated and that the remaining work was that of “clearing out.”
Given the recurring report that Fano forces are still undertaking conventional wars in many parts of the region against government forces, the government claims does not seem to reflect reality on the ground. Yet, Fano forces were unable to take effective control of cities and impose their own administration.

Over 3 variables are often at play to destabilize-and-weaken Ethiopia from within via inter-ethnic or inter-religious conflict: Amara Supremacists, Oromo Extremists, Former Regime Proxies, Egypt’s Dogs [EPLF-TPLF, OLF-IFLO, ‘Amara Fanno’, etc.], etc.
Ironically, Ethiopia’s Enemies choose Amaras as their favorites to use as BOTH Agents Provocateurs & Victims. That’s because the Amaras live all over Ethiopia [especially in urban centers]. Most of these Amaras are usually from Gojjam & Gonder [G&G]. It’s mind-boggling to see the Amara Diaspora pushing this to clinch refugee status!
