Toronto – Enat Party on Thursday announced that it is returning to the “coalition for Ethiopian Unity.” The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) restricted it not to join the coalition on alleged grounds of rules violations.
Enat Party has been collaborating with four opposition parties that formed “coalition for Ethiopian Unity” which was formed in September 2025.
In a statement it released on Thursday, the party noted that it was excluded from the coalition due to what it called “known obstacles.”
“It is with great pleasure that we herald the return of our party to the coalition – coalition for Ethiopian Unity,” Enat Party said. Furthermore the party expressed its conviction that “heartfelt relations in the coalition will be a strength to organize and lead Ethiopians for a peaceful struggle.”
The party credited leadership of the coalition and some individuals for the solidarity demonstrated which it says has become an impetus for the process that led to its formation.
Enat Party has also credited National Electoral Board of Ethiopia leadership for the role played in resolving the obstacles to join the coalition.
At the same time the party called upon united action to rescue the Ethiopian people from the entanglement it finds itself.
Enat party is one of the few vocal opposition political parties operating at the Federal level. Its effort to join the coalition for Ethiopian Unity was stalled after the NEBE raised alleged incomplete legal requirements.
Ethiopia is set to conduct its 7th General Election in June 2026. Many of the opposition parties, including Enat party, have been expressing concern over the process alleging that the ruling party made organizing events difficult for the opposition parties.
