Toronto – Ethiopia’s Former State Minister for Peace and a member of Oromia regional State parliament, Taye Dendea is acquitted of two charges but “guilty” of one the charges.

Abera Nigus, Taye’s lawyer, disclosed that his client is acquitted on two of the charges “Collaborating with enemy” and “inciting chaos and violence.”

Taye appeared at the Federal High Court Lideta Bench on Wednesday.

He was acquitted in two of the charges after the court looked into evidence – witnesses, documents and video evidence – he presented in his defense.

“The evidence presented adequately defended Taye,” his lawyer reportedly said.

Taye has been arguing in the court that he was arrested “without evidence only because he criticized the government” for a long time.

He was arrested in June 2025 after a court case was revived after four or so months after he was released from prison apparently for a remark on his social media page criticizing Abiy Ahmed saying  ” Not only he is a man who can not keep his words but he is a ruthless man who likes to play with  the blood of innocent people.”  However, the charge was framed in a way to indict him over “terrorism” and “inciting violence charges.”

It was two days after Taye shared those remarks that Abiy Ahmed removed him as State Minister for Peace with a two line letter.

Taye will still face court decision over the guilty verdict in connection with possession of firearms. He was reportedly found in possession of firearms without a license which he did not defend very well.

He will appear in court again on November 24 to hear the court’s final decision, based on a remark from his lawyer.

Abiy Ahmed and Taye Dendea are from the same political party – Oromo People’s Democratic Organization – which later morphed into a  “Prosperity Party” with member parties of the defunct Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) except the TPLF against whom the Federal government fought a two years bloody war between 2020 and 2022.
