In an article Gen. Tsadkan G. Bayru wrote for The Africa Report on March 10th of this year, he made a few statements that on the surface may appear to be rather self-evident and uncontroversial. Yet, on closer examination, they should be disconcerting, to say the least. He stated that “the option for peace may be narrow, leaving war the only option”. I take these words of the general very seriously because he is a man who has known the internal workings of not only his party, the TPLF, but also of Abiy’s government. His assessment, therefore, can have real consequences. I take issue with his statement because there have been very few instances, not only in Ethiopian history, but in world history where there has been an “only option”. It is not that “the options for peace are narrowing,” as he put it, but that PM Abiy and FM Berhanu Jula have shut themselves in a war mindset. When one embraces the notion that war is the only option, then one finds all the pretexts to instigate it.
What is even more disheartening as well as terrifying, is that there does not seem to be any serious deliberation on how many lives are about to be sacrificed for lack of committed search for peaceful resolution. It is taken for granted that tens of thousands, and, even more probably, hundreds of thousands of young lives will be lost or damaged permanently. Instead of this being the central issue, it has been subordinated to economic consideration. Nothing new here. Who remembers the faceless hundreds of thousands who perished to “liberate” a sliver of worthless border land in Badme? What about the estimated six hundred thousand who have been run through the meat grinder for no real gain, only to produce more instability and enmity in the Tigray War?
Gen. Tsadkan, in what can only be interpreted as partisan words, stated that “[his] preference is that Tigray opt for peace. It has suffered enough”. This is not a question of who needs to be absent or present on the battlefield. The war that is being planned on both sides of the border will not exempt anyone. It is not even a question who will fight in it, and who will sit it out. It will inevitably involve all East African countries whether they want to or not.
I find it troubling that there is virtually no accountability and responsibility for the two absolutely useless wars that have been fought in the last 27 years. While uncounted youth gave their lives and limbs for the worthless ambitions of their leaders, these leaders, rather than standing in judgment, are again plotting to send a new crop of young people to the meat grinder. Gen. Tsadkan, who has been involved at the highest level in all the conflicts Ethiopia has been engaged in over the past 35 years and knows more than anyone in the region the human and economic cost of war, should be the one above all others to counsel for peace. He is instead engaged mostly in the calculus of power, and how to keep Tigray, his native land, from becoming the theatre of war.
Gen. Tsadkan, through cold, clinical analysis, has determined that Tigray will be the battleground for the coming war. It could very well be the case. I don’t have information or argument to contradict his conclusions, nor is it my intention. However, as a person who even nominally considers himself Ethiopian, he should be offering his experience and expertise in preventing what may very well lead to the collapse of the Ethiopian and Eritrean states, instead of focusing only on Tigray. Has he not been one time the Chief of Staff of the Ethiopian Defense Force?
Let us not engage at all in the calculus of war, but in the pursuit of peace. As human affairs go, we are designed to fight or, as the case may be, to flee. But there is a third, more noble and rational alternative: to negotiate in peace. It may be counter–instinctive, and that is why it is difficult. It requires us to think hard. Opting for peace at a reasonable cost, i.e. give and take, can be achieved almost always. It only requires goodwill and the true appreciation of the value of human life, especially of young human lives. Let’s face the facts, and let’s be honest: all the young soldiers, recruits and fighters that have lost their lives and limbs in most of the wars our country has fought in the past half century come from the peasantry and urban poor. That is why they are easily discounted, forgotten, and shameful calculations are made on their lives and limbs.
It is certainly not worth our consideration if Ethiopia will come out victorious or not in a war against Eritrea. We should instead be engaged in how to come to a solution that is beneficial to both countries without firing a single shot. Even if, in the unlikely possibility that Ethiopia achieves a decisive victory over Eritrea, we must only remind ourselves that it will only be sowing the seeds of future wars. Not only that, but our country will suffer enormous loss and decades of economic setbacks, if we indeed survive it. This is not a difficult conclusion to arrive at. We have only to see the current economic disarray caused largely by the Tigray War. A war with Eritrea will only compound our economic, security and political problems tenfold.

Travesty of Justice: Ethiopia’s rights have been trampled! Eritrea must return Ethiopia’s Affar Red Sea Coast [ARSC]! The 1990s TPLF-EPLF Treaties should be Null-and-Void!
1). Eritrea & Propaganda: Play victim/cry foul/intimidate/demonize/destabilize Ethiopia.
2). Ethiopia’s Extra Efforts for Peaceful Red Sea Access: youtu.be/esedLTkujB0?t=338
3). Bahirè-Nègash | Eritrea: Italy snatched Ethiopia’s Bahirè-Nègash [1st Italo-Ethiopian War (1895-1896)], renamed it ‘Eritrea’, and occupied it till the end of WW-II [1945].
4). ARSC [South of Massawa to North of Djibouti]: ARSC is the Ethiopian Affars’ homeland since the dawn of time. It has never been part of Eritrea/Bahirè-Nègash!
5). Eritrea [Ethiopia] vs. Alsace-Lorraine [France]: At the end of WW-II, Axis Powers surrendered to the Allied Powers and the Italians in Eritrea surrendered to the British.
The Allied returned most Axis-occupied land to former owners. So, German-occupied Alsace-Lorraine went back to France. Alas, Britain didn’t give back Eritrea to Ethiopia.
6). Derg Era [1974-1991]: The ARSC was a self-administrating Autonomous Region!
7). 1991: Egypt’s Proxy Secessionist [EPLF & TPLF] invaded-and-occupied Ethiopia. Eritrea declared independence [1993] & also annexed ARSC without Ethiopia’s consent.
8). Land-Locking Ethiopia: TPLF & EPLF were co-ruling Ethiopia [1991-1998]! EPLF concocted the “Eritrean Affars & Ethiopian Affars” crap and land-locked Ethiopia.
9). Eritrea’s Secession Ratification: Ethiopia wasn’t at the table. TPLF’s Meles Zenawi & the UN’s SG [Egyptian Boutros-Gali] fast-tracked Eritrea’s membership in AU & UN.
10). Eritrea & Peace: No sooner had Eritrea declared independence than invaded Sudan, Ethiopia, Djibouti, and even Yemen [The Hanish Islands]. Eritrea destabilizes the Horn!
When ‘Precious life’ gets replaced globally (from the Churches of the world to the brothels) by ‘Precious Money’ that started some 2000 years ago, to expect anything but its final chapter is perhaps a misunderstanding.
Where we witness human beings-being, being hunted down like an animals in GAZA, starved to death while their ZIONIST-tormentors barbecue & party a few meters away (separated by fence), and used as a target-practice while seeking FOOD-handouts to nourish their hunger stinker skeletal bodies savagery beyond limits…than anywhere elsewhere in the world, though human suffering is at its highest intensity in so many hot spots.
It is a reminds that we are living in a very disturbing time; perhaps similar to the one stated in both the ‘New & Old Testament’ (‘The Book Of Revelation’) .
“The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are figures from the Book of Revelation in the Bible, representing Conquest, War, Famine, and Death. They are seen as symbols of the events that will occur during the end times, often interpreted as harbingers of the Last Judgment.”
( Our forefathers warned us of the time coming being ‘የ ፰ኛው ሺ’, now we know it has began).

George W. Bush, told us “God talked to him” before the 2003 ‘Iraq war’
“Those who think they have a mission other than life are the kind of people who take up “God’s work” and fight with the rest of the world, because other things have become more important than life to them. They can do terrible things because of what they believe in or what they think is more important than life itself.”
In 1925 there were only 2 billion people, we are now four fold at 8 billion… That by itself tells us ‘the theater-hall’ is full and the SHOW is abut to begin, so that we say GOOD BYE to the OLD “Precious Money” and to USHER IN “Precious Life”.

“The parasitic mind”
How heard mentality destroying the societies we live in ( especially the ‘European-‘value” propagandists (sleepwalking) shamelessly FORCING their stupidity on the ‘Global-South’ through their ‘colonization’, ‘diplomatic’ and ‘trade’ mechanisms, making it difficult for the less developed to DISAGREE and REJECT these stupid ideas they forcefully push relentlessly.
Now we can see how their twisted idea have destroyed their own society beyond repair, or passed point of no return.
600 years of devastation, the first 300 of those ravaged in endless wars within themselves, the last 300 colonizing the rest of the world spreading death and destruction that created all the CONFLICTS that we experience TODAY; INCLUDING in OUR OWN HORN OF AFRICA. The good news is fading fast, and in the brink of DYING along with them.
