Ethiopian Transport Employers Federation says the process is in the final stage

Toronto – Ethiopian Transport Employers Federation is importing 5,000 Russian made trucks to the country.
Berhane Zeru, president of the Federation, told DW Amharic that the aim is to modernize transportation service in the country and enhance competitiveness.
“So as to enhance existing trade and market connectivity in the region, improving cross country transport service is necessary,” Berhane Zeru is quoted as saying. It is with that in mind that the Federation is importing 5000 Russia made trucks to the country.
The organization is partnering with Bazra Ethiopia – assembly plant in Ethiopia – to facilitate the purchase process from Russia. The president said it has been discussing the matter for over a year and half now. It is now in the final phase of the purchase process.
The President added that Ethiopia’s landscape was considered in the decision to purchase the trucks from Russia. Fuel consumption reduction and minimal air pollution attributes were also considered, according to the president.
The vehicles are intended for freight, tanker and passenger transport. They will be assembled in Kombolcha, north Ethiopia once they are imported.
The president unspecified as to how much the prices of the trucks are. However, he has unveiled that it is working with Commercial Bank of Ethiopia to facilitate loan for the payment.
Ethiopian Transport Employers Federation was established in November 2018. It is composed of 31 associations operating across the country. Draws its membership from freight transport , tanker transport, passengers transport, and taxi transport. The Federation was in controversy with the government over unpaid bills for service provided during the two years war in the northern parts of Ethiopia.

I remember one of my farmer relatives who bought one of those tractors from the former Soviet Union. It was much cheaper than the John Deere and other western brands. If I can remember correctly it was called Belarus. What a nightmare it turned out to be for him and those who expected tilling and other service from him. It was a disaster. If it is too cheap to be true, it probably is. What I have been hearing about those electric trains from the bullies capital Beijing is not something to sing about. They spend more time in the workshop than on the rail tracks. Expect these trucks to come rumbling down straight to your homes.
I never knew Russia was known for its trucks. Maybe for fighter planes. And fighter planes are expensive and will be useless for land transportation. Russian and East German vehicles we got in the 1970s did not last long in the twisting and steep terrain or the dust in borderlands. Whereas N-3s (ኢነትሬ) from the days of fascist Italian invasion are likely still running somewhere in the country.
It is a wise plan for Ethiopia to always work with Russian. I feel Russian products are our own!!! Any one who tried to undermine Russian products is foolish or Ignorance.
