Toronto – Fano forces under Mere Wedajo in North Wollo claimed to have killed a senior Ethiopian Defense Force commander.

The commander is identified as Let. Colonel Teka Mekebo Mohammed. He was commander of the 48th Division of the Ethiopian Defense Force.

The information was announced via Fano Asres Mare Damtie, who is the political head of Fano forces in the Gojjam area of the Amhara region.

A picture of the  Photo ID of the colonel killed in combat and communication devices is shared on social media. The name in Amharic and English shows a minor difference. Since recent years, the Ethiopian Defense Force uses English language including on the uniforms of soldiers.

Additionally a deputy lieutenant of a regiment within  the 48 Division of the Defense Force is killed.  He is identified as Teresa Gezu Bikila.

They were reportedly killed in a combat operation in Zobel mountain chains – this is between Woldia City and Raya along the road to Tigray. It is under Raya Kobo district.

Over 200 government forces were killed according to Fano forces. The Fano forces have not disclosed casualties.

The Ethiopian Defense Force has not remarked on the situation at this writing. It has rather been making a claim that hundreds of Forces laid down arms in South Wollo area. The latest claim from the Defense Force, as shared on its social media page, is that it has secured the release of two trucks Fano forces seized in Wollo area.

Meanwhile, Ethio News reported Tuesday that there had been six strings of grenade attacks in the regional capital Bahir Dar in recent days. They mostly targeted Defense Force and Anti-Riot forces.

The deadline Ethiopian Defense Force set as “final”  to eliminate Fano forces from the Amhara region of Ethiopia has passed. Reports of intense fighting between Fano forces and the defense force are still underway in Gojjam, Gondar and Shewa areas.

In North Gondar, government forces have reportedly taken dislodged Fano forces from Qara after several days of intense fighting.
