Toronto – Tens of thousands of ethnic Amhara had been massacred by militant ethnic Oromo nationalist forces in the Wollega region. It was an indiscriminate one ; children, women and elders were victims of what many are describing as genocide/ethnic cleaning in the area.
As the government failed to provide security, it allowed farming community members in the area to arm and protect themselves.
Now the government is moving to stripe them of their fire gun licenses and disarm them. Government decision is worrying them as they will be vulnerable to the radical ethnic Oromo Organization operating in the area and facing death again.
It seems the government is now even denying that it was not what it calls “Shane” that was massacring and kidnapping ethnic Amharas in the region. When the Defense Chief of Staff, Field Marshal Berhanu Jula had an interview with Pro-government Media outlet – Lualawi Media – in late September this year, he made claims that it was National Movement of Amhara (NaMA) that was undertaking the kidnappings and killings in the area.
He even went further to claim that the organization recruited an ethnic Amhara by the name “Ashenafi Gondare” from Dembi Dollo and infiltrated him to Shane (“Oromo Liberation Army”) who changed his name as Jal Chala and became an influential leader in the organization. Another claim that the defense chief made is that 17 ethnic Amhara girls (university students) kidnapped in the region in 2020 were taken to Bahir Dar. When the same media interviewed the Amhara region president this month about the girls being taken to Bahir Dar, he said “he has no information.” That narrative and the denial about the massacre of ethnic Amhara in the region seems to have informed the government decision.
Government move to disarm ethnic Amhara in East Wollega – where the radical Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) operates extensively- has caused tension, according to a report by BBC Amharic.
Residents from Gida Ayana district of the area told BBC Amharic that they are worrying over the decision to disarm them. Another resident from Andode Dicho locality, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, told the source that recurring attacks happened in the area three years ago.
More concerning is, according to residents, that the government move to disarm is ethnic based one, and it is targeting ethnic Amhara – leaving them vulnerable again to militant ethnic Oromo nationalists.

Another moderate earthquake at 4.6 on the scale had hit the same location of the previous one in the vicinity of Awash. Let’s hope no one was hurt and no property damaged. Earthquakes hitting densely populated locations in that country have been my concern for a long time. May The Almighty Our Creator forbid that.
The other unusual phenomenon I am noticing on the weather radar is many areas in that country have been receiving heavy rainfall. Let’s hope the type flooding that killed hundreds in Spain will not happen in the old country. Insha’Allah !!!
