Ethnic Targeting Through Residence Demolition: The Plight of the Amhara Community in Ethiopia”

Homes being destroyed by heartless hatemonger ethnic cadres

By Tule Baye

It is clear that the tactic of residence demolition is another method used by ethno-nationalist elites in Ethiopia to target the ethnic Amhara community. By pushing them to the outskirts of cities and demolishing their homes in informal settlements, the government is further marginalizing and displacing this community.

The unjust practice of demolishing homes and reclaiming land for the benefit of the rich or ruling party cadres is not only causing mass homelessness but also instigating resistance and conflict. People are being forcibly removed from their homes and sometimes even killed for standing up against these demolitions. Only in the outskirts of Addis about 130,000 homes are demolished.

The government’s hypocrisy in prohibiting land transactions while secretly allowing informal deals to take place is exacerbating the situation. Farmers are being forced to sell their land in the black market for better compensation compared to government taking, only to be told later that selling land is illegal and their property will be confiscated.

This systematic targeting of the ethnic Amhara community through residence-home demolishing is not only fueling resentment and anger but also sparking resistance movements like Fano, who are fighting back against ethnic cleansing and property confiscation. It is crucial for the international community to pay attention to these injustices and support the Amhara community in their struggle for justice and equality.

“”The above awful note from Borkena is always posted with the intention of trivializing the article expressing concern for the public’s safety and wellbeing.” The article is not promoting hate but alerting the public about the plight of innocent civilians during the Genocide by Ahmed regime. If you do not share this concern, you are just hypocrites and war mongers in the most systematic manner. 2. Residence demolition must be stopped, and the prosperity leaders and local city hall representatives should rather ensure the safety and overall wellbeing of the citizens.
